Most of our text books and teachers blithely assume that everyone who dies goes to heaven.
Not exact matches
Most christians do not think the Bible is a
text book and much
of it is left to interpret.
I also endorse the
most immediately doable reform effort
of all, which is for adults to themselves form and promote
book - groups dedicated to the study
of such
texts.
While I do not consider myself an expert on all the religious writings
of all
of the main religions in the world, I have read
most of the main religious
texts for
most of the main world religions, and while it is not uncommon to find violent events being described in these other religious
books, no other set
of religious writings comes even close to describing the violence and bloodshed that one finds within the pages
of the Hebrew Scriptures.
Pacioni himself tells us that throughout his
book he has «tried to reconstruct the framework
of Augustine's speculation in all
of its
most original philosophical traits, following philosophical and logical - linguistic suggestions performing a point by point analysis
of the
texts not only from a philological but also a historiographical, cultural and logical - formal point
of view» (p. xix).

In
most books, only the final view is evident, for authors seek to revise earlier positions to conform with the final one.6 All three notions are present in the
text, however, for Whitehead in revising did not erase all traces
of his earlier formulations.
My problems with this
book are the same problems I have with nearly all
books about biblical criticism: I believe the presuppositions
of most of those who engage in biblical criticism are inherently flawed, and as a result, short - circuit the creative thinking that is necessary to discover solutions to the so - called problems in the biblical
text.
An earlier version
of this
book was
of immense help to me as I learned about the roles
of faith and works in the life
of the believer, and how to understand
most of the tough
texts in the Bible on this topic.
Scholars were not satisfied only with producing the
most accurate
text of the Bible; they also wanted to know how the Bible came into being, when its various parts were written, the total surroundings in which the various
books were written, and the consequence
of all this for an understanding
of the Christian faith.
Not
most importantly that since the bible is the
most heavily researched
book in the history
of the world by wide orders
of magnitude, scholars have thoroughly examined textual criticism issues such as this, and the Christian can rest assured that: — the bible we have is over 99 % original
text — none
of the verses under issue affect the Christian message
of salvation through faith in the atoning work
of Jesus on the cross at all, not even the smallest amount.
You can post quotes from and references to this
book all year long and it will not change the fact that: Yes, there are some practical words
of wisdom for peaceful human behavior in it (as there are in
most religious
texts), but just because this is true it does not make all
of the supernatural fantasies in it true.
Despite Selman's insistence on adopting a «new approach»,
most of the
books cited in the
text were published in the 1980s and 1990s; Paul Haffner's The Sacramental Mystery (1999) is the
most recent
book that is included in the Bibliography.
The
most explicit
text in the Bible on the manifestation
of divine wisdom in and through the beauty and order
of creatures is found in chapter 13
of the
Book of Wisdom.
The writing that
most clearly and prominently displays the heart
of this integration, however, is his Liber regulae pastoralis (literally
Book of Pastoral Guidance), often translated as Pastoral Care after the first two words
of the
text (Pastorolis curae) or asPastoralia or Concerning Pastoral Care (De pastorali cura).
Let me be blunt: Although the
book contains an impressive catalog
of difficult
