There was a report published in 1986 that showed that in a group of 11
dogs with histiocytic sarcoma, nine of them (all Bernese
mountain dogs) were related.
If we have a social lifestyle with our pet — they're visiting other
dogs, playing in a river or pond, visiting a
dog park, maybe frolicking in the
mountains, traveling to doggie sporting events, riding in a boat —
there's a big list of what our pets can enjoy!

Mountain Dog is prone to hip dysplasia amongst other conditions, that might have been the surgery she mentioned that was not covered; however,
there are a number of pet insurers that do cover hereditary conditions (Embrace and Petplan being two of them) and even some of those that have not covered them in the past are adding optional coverage for breed - specific issues now (such as VPI and ASPCA).
There's even a weekly Bluegrass Brunch in Cumberland, which hosts a lantern festival every February and an annual motorcycle rally in August, among many other events in this sleepy little
mountain town where
dogs still sleep in the roads.
The park is popular with
dog walkers, hikers,
mountain bikers (
there are a myriad MTB paths) and trail runners.
Three
dogs, one 20 - something daughter, an avid cook and gardener, a wood stove, living in the
mountains, it all means
there will be dust, ashes, wood chips,
dog hair, leaves, dirt, etc..
