Church and ministry so that we can speak today of an
emerging new conception of the ministry, a conception which leaves it ministry and does not change it into something else.
Whatever the reasons for the uncertainty, there is evidence that a
new idea of call is
emerging among Protestant
churches and is contributing its share to the
emerging new concept of the ministry.
As in the cases of the ministry's functions and of the call so also when the minister's authority is in question the
Church moves nearer the center of the picture in the
emerging new conception.
In his decision to convoke the Second Vatican Council, John XXIII wished the
Church to be prepared for the
new world that was
emerging in the aftermath of the disastrous events of the Second World War.
But it is worthwhile to recall that within the first generation it was possible for Paul not only to describe the «breaking of bread» at the fellowship meal of Christians as «sharing in the body of Christ,» 24 but to pass on from that to the idea that the

new Israel as it
emerged in history) is itself the «body of Christ,» each member of which is «in Christ,» as Christ is «in him.»
It looks like a case of hedging one's bets and hoping that out of the process will

new vision of the
Church, neatly packaged with something to please everyone.
New centers for
church education need to
emerge where scholars in numerous fields can engage in research and development around foundational issues.
Only by proposing such a theological development can we realistically hope to

Looking back to our glorious past can not be the only approach to [current anniversaries...] Contemporary culture, and even more believers themselves, in fact, demand a continuing ecclesial reflection and action in the various areas in which
new issues
