On April 27, 2017
the NOAA research ship Bell M. Shimada will embark with a team of scientists to explore the deep seafloor environment of Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary.

the NOAA research ships had noted in earlier cruises that for the ice melt the salinity though lower then normal for open ocean demonstrate only a thin fresh / brackish water zone.
