There's no price or release date yet, though Fuhu said we can count on the tablet launching at a cheaper price than
the Nabi 2.
This sturdy 7 - inch tablet picks up where last year's
Nabi 2 left off, this time featuring a special build designed for easy part replacement should something with the device go wrong.
It was also beat by the Excite Pure (7,597), MeMO Pad FHD 10 (7,788),
Nabi 2 (7,386) and the 2013 Nexus 7 (7,165).
That runtime falls short of the tablet category average (7:06), and is less than the battery life on 7 - inchers
Nabi 2 (8:05) and 2013 Nexus 7 (8:26).
The Fuhu
Nabi 2 has the opposite problem — there are almost too many browsers to choose from.
The Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Kids scored 3,671 on Quadrant, which is below the 5,497 tablet category average and both the 1.3 - GHz Tegra 3 - powered Fuhu
Nabi 2 (3,964) and the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7 (19,924), which runs on a 2.2 - GHz quad - core Snapdragon 800 processor.
It trailed mainstream 10 - inchers such as the Excite Pure (4,473) and the MeMO Pad FHD (5,972), and also lost out to the 7 - inch Fuhu
Nabi 2 (3,964) and the 2013 Nexus 7 (4,949).
This is longer than the 7:35 tablet category average and the Fuhu
Nabi 2 (8:03), but the Kindle Fire HDX 7 survived a bit longer (8:39).
The Nabi 2 allows you to pick and choose domains to which you want your kids to have access.
The $ 199.99 Fuhu
Nabi 2, for instance, lets parents create multiple profiles for kids and comes with multiple child - friendly browsers.
Educational apps on
the Nabi 2 are also more robust, with a quiz feature that lets kids test themselves on lessons learned.
The Nabi 2, however, comes with iHeart Radio, Skype, Zinio and both the Google Play and Amazon app stores in Mommy and Daddy mode.
It's also smaller than the 8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 - inch Fuhu
Nabi 2.
Measuring 247 lux, the Kurio 10s» IPS screen is brighter than
the Nabi 2 (162 lux) and the Excite Pure (240 lux).
So how does it compare to kid - friendly tablets like the Fuhu
Nabi 2?
The Nabi 2's 1024 x 600 resolution is lower, but on a smaller 7 - inch screen, it delivered sharp images.
While those were all considered reasonable losses to hit a cheap price point last year, competitors like the Nexus 7 and Fuhu
Nabi 2 have showed that you don't have to make all of those compromises to have a speedy, under - $ 200 budget tablet.
Nabi 2 is a better tablet TEGRA 3 processor even if its 199 $.
The Fuhu
Nabi 2, which is also designed for children's small hands, measures a slightly larger 8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 inches and weighs a heftier 1.3 pounds.
Parents looking for greater control over their kids» learning will prefer the $ 179 Fuhu
Nabi 2, which provides longer endurance, a better display and a host of modern kid - friendly apps.
Tablets such as the child - focused Fuhu
Nabi 2 come with powerful parental controls, including time - limit settings and app access restrictions.
That's lower than the Kurio 7s (221 lux),
Nabi 2 (162 lux), MeMO Pad HD 7 (358 lux) and tablet category average (363 lux).
At 7.6 x 4.65 x 0.39 inches, the XO Tablet is smaller and slimmer than kid tablets like the Kurio 7s (7.8 x 5.0 x 0.49 inches) and the Fuhu
Nabi 2 (8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 inches).
Other kid - friendly tablets such as the Fuhu
Nabi 2 and the Oregon Scientific Meep come in bright, eye - popping colors and bulky child - safe designs, but the Kurio 7s itself is black with a bright blue logo on its back.
When we measured the brightness of its display, the Kurio 7s notched 221 lux, beating
the Nabi 2 (162 lux) but falling behind the Meep (374 lux) and category average (363 lux).
The XO Tablet scored 2,272 on Quadrant — better than the Kurio 7s (1,802) but below the tablet category average (3,449), the MeMO Pad HD 7 (3,414) and the Fuhu
Nabi 2 (3,964).
On Quadrant, the Kurio 7s» score of 1,802 was well below the tablet category average of 3,449 and the Fuhu
Nabi 2's 3,964.
At 13.4 ounces, the Jr. is also lighter than the 1.3 - pound 7 - inch
nabi 2.
We gave Fuhu's
Nabi 2 high marks for its impressive Tegra 3 performance, robust parental controls and its ability to function as an Android slate and kid - safe tablet.
Fuhu touts its parental controls as one of
the Nabi 2's standout features.
These factors have yet to be determined, but Samsung will have to price its tablet in the same price range as the Fuhu
Nabi 2 ($ 199.99) or cheaper to truly compete.
But could a major industry player like Samsung give
the Nabi 2 some stiff competition?
That's more flexible than Fuhu's parental controls on the kid - geared
Nabi 2 tablet.
Samsung's offering is also lighter and smaller than
the nabi 2, which can be important when mom is carrying the tablet around in her purse to entertain little ones on the road.
Unlike
the nabi 2, the nabi Jr. doesn't come with Amazon's app store in addition to Fuhu's own App Zone marketplace, which only offers a selection of 400 apps.
For $ 100 less than
the nabi 2, is the Fuhu nabi Jr. a bargain, or should you splurge on the full - sized version?
Comparatively, the Fuhu
Nabi 2 boasts quad - core Tegra 3 performance, enabling it to handle more demanding graphics than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids.
Although their cameras and processors differ significantly, the Fuhu
Nabi 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids sport displays with the same 1024 x 600 resolution.
The tablet scored 2,638, which falls below the 3,240 category average and the 7 - inch
nabi 2's benchmark score of 3,964.
Measuring 7.4 x 4.3 x 0.4 inches, the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids more compact than the 8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 - inch
Nabi 2.
The Nabi 2 only has a 2 - megapixel front facing camera and no rear camera, unlike Samsung's upcoming slate.
Measuring 7 x 4.5 x 1.3 inches, the Fuhu nabi Jr. is noticeably smaller than the 8.6 x 6.1 x 1.1 - inch
nabi 2.
This is significantly less than the larger
nabi 2, whose battery lasted an impressive 8:05 during the same test.
Measuring 241 lux on our light meter, the nabi Jr.'s screen falls below the 373 category - average, but still surpasses
the nabi 2's 162 - lux display.
Nabi 2 Tablet Bumper Case with Customizable Name Plate and 26 Piece Kinabis Letter Pack bundle - Educational Interactive Alphabet Letters with Protective Glow in the Dark Neon Green Tablet Case
We found the V2's Parental Controls satisfactory, but the tablet's weak battery life is hard to overlook when
the Nabi 2 lasts almost twice as long.
Unlike the XO Tablet and
the Nabi 2, the Kids Tablet 2 does not feature Google Play for downloading apps.
There has also been several recent unveilings of a few tablet PCs meant exclusively for kids, which includes
the Nabi 2, Archos ChildPad, and the Lexibook Tablet for kids.
So I'm assuming that such a workaround will be available for
the Nabi 2 soon.
