Actively drawing the viewer forward in
The Nearly Endless Line (2010), Steir moves a single brushstroke off the canvas to encircle her installation space.
In her new work,
A Nearly Endless Line # 3, developed for the gallery's Corner Space, she takes exhibitions that were held in Winter 2010 at Whitney Museum of American Art (The Endless Line) and Sue Scott Gallery in New York City (Another Endless Line) as her point of departure.
Steir's earlier site - specific wall installation,
The Nearly Endless Line, is currently on view, through January 9, at Sue Scott Gallery on Rivington Street in downtown Manhattan.
The «
nearly endless line» scans convincingly as life itself.
But in
The Nearly Endless Line, a new installation at Sue Scott Gallery, Pat Steir does just that, with both subtlety and force.
In 2010, the Whitney Museum commissioned a vast wall painting by the artist titled
Another Nearly Endless Line.
