Well, we now know: MFi controllers will be supported, and SteelSeries is releasing a new controller, the Nimbus, designed for Apple TV.
Sadly MFI - support is still broken after the first update since release, at least for Steelseries Nimbus.
The SteelSeries Nimbus ($ 45) is generally regarded as the best MFi controller out there, and it's easy to see why.
Once you've paired them, which you can do quickly and easily in Settings, MFi Controllers like the Steel Series Nimbus work really, really well.
I don't recommend it, because using the analog sticks like this is pretty unpredictable, but you can (and probably should) use an MFi controller like the SteelSeries Nimbus.
