Samsung today took the wraps off its Galaxy
Note 4, the latest in the
line that arguably established
phablets — halfway been phone and tablet — as a category unto themselves.
The Galaxy
Note 2 was announced in August 2012 and released in September as the second Samsung
phablet of the
Note line.
Samsung continues to blur the
lines between tablets and smartphones with devices like the Galaxy
Note 3, but apparently it doesn't expect
phablets to eat into tablet sales at all if it's expecting its breakneck growth in tablet shipments to continue.

Note 8.0 is the newest tablet in Samsung's pen - based tablet
line and features a mid-size screen, placing it in - between the popular 5.5 - inch
Note 2
phablet and 10 - inch tablet.

phablets, if you will — with its Galaxy
Note line, which includes high - resolution displays and a handy S - Pen stylus.
Building from the existing
Note series, the
Note 4 continues the
phablet - with - stylus product
line, but pushes much of its upgrade kudos into the screen department.
The same can be said about the now old Galaxy
Note 2
phablet as well as it indeed seems the last one from Samsung's Galaxy
line - up to qualify for the Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade.
The company announced their new
line of flagship
phablets under the Mi
Note category earlier this month, and Mi 5 is at least a month away.
It's slightly smaller than the
Note 4 and looks like a baby compared to the Nexus 6, so it's not quite a
phablet, but it sure is crossing that
line.
For years now, Samsung's Galaxy S series has been its flagship destination for smartphones, and more recently, we've seen the Galaxy
Note line emerge to complement it with
phablet - sized models.
The current
Note has an oversized 5.3» HD Super AMOLED display, which earned it the «
phablet» moniker, as the device straddles the
line between a full - sized slate and a large smartphone that can be held to one's ear without looking too ridiculous.
Calling its latest
phablet the Galaxy
Note 7 would allow Samsung to
line up the numbers of its flagship phones while snuffing out the impression that the
Note is a step behind Samsung's other devices.
Samsung paved the way for large screen devices that blurred the
lines between phones and tablets, and with the Galaxy
Note 4, it has proved it's still king of the
phablet.
So, just like what many tech sites are saying, Samsung is not at all done with the Galaxy
Note brand and it is far from abandoning its famous
phablet line.
The company might be interested in offering the same build quality features of the Galaxy S6 to buyers looking for a top - of - the -
line Galaxy
Note phablet, which means there wouldn't be any room left for a microSD slot... or a replaceable battery.
