There are various
game modes, but because the core
fighting engine doesn't ever change, players end up doing the same
old thing no matter what's chosen.
There are other
modes as well including Hold the rainbow where a player needs to hold a rainbow power up that collects coins as the player moves, making this an epic
game of cat and mouse, Mega coins in which players have to
fight over larger coins for points or just your plain
old garden variety deathmatch.
In addition to this, you can also expect to see some of the
old game modes making a return in the upcoming
fighting game.
Away from the story
mode fights, there's the Adventure
mode — in the
older games you were able to walk around an overworld RPG - style to find your next
fight; this has now been relegated to Adventure
mode, offering a fun if not massive diversion.
Got this for my 12 year -
old son for Christmas, and the
gamer in me came back out to play as we spent hours in 2 - player
mode (there's a girl character, which I of course loved), bashing monsters, chainsawing locusts and
fighting our way through the crazy awesomeness that is Gears of War 4.
Would've loved a local party
mode like
old 2D
fighting games.
Story
mode is good, took about 6 or 7 hours, I've been thrashed countless times by 15 year
olds all around the world on multiplayer, and the single
fights are good if you haven't got hours to get too deeply involved in a
game.
