Since there is also a remake of Park's
OLDBOY on the way it only seems fair that we also get a remake of one of Kim's films too.
It is with much fear and trepidation that we approach Spike Lee's
Oldboy on November 27th.

on the set of the English - language debut of
Oldboy director Park Chan - wook, Wasikowska talked to The A.V. Club about her penchant for outsiders, the link between acting and dance, and the harsh beauty of Portland, Oregon.

Oldboy), who had planned to use her to transport CPH4 into Europe, where it would be sold (in small quantities, mind you) as a recreational drug.
Like most every film
on this list, Chan - wook Park's 2003 original
Oldboy boasts many scenes that are tough to watch.

The vision Park has laid out in films such as
Oldboy and Lady Vengeance has a still harsher, exaggerated brutality, as if by pushing the boundaries of savage metaphor he can shed light
on the quieter tragedies of everyday life.
Luckily, Bong's friend and fellow director Park Chan - wook, riding high
on the phenomenal international success of his 2005 thriller
Oldboy, had just created a production company.

14 years ago, Korean director Park Chan - wook secured a huge legion of fans with his critically acclaimed thriller «
Oldboy», which later
on was subjected to a lame American remake directed by Spike Lee.
And the expert cast keeps the film
on track: Mr. Tee («The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift») and Ms. Kang («
Oldboy») sparkle together; Bobby Lee hilariously extols the joys of marriage; Margaret Cho is a shaman who loves mojitos; and Stephen Park, as Jason's exasperated father, has perfect deadpan delivery.
I've heard great things about his
Oldboy, and I think I must get off my duff and watch it (actually — sitting
on my duff is probably how I will watch it...).
Married to the swooning, hypnotic camerawork that has been the hallmark of Park's collaboration with DP Chung Chung since
Oldboy, it has about it the perversity of a Victorian chamber drama squeezed through the filter of a very Korean take
on class and sex — attitudes partly shaped by living in the shadow of one of the two or three most unstable regimes in the world.

By now, you would have seen the official poster for Spike Lee's adaptation of the
Oldboy manga, made famous by Park Chan - wook's classic film of the same name and based
on the same source material.
Tarantino made no bones about wielding his influence
on the awards that year (the runner - up, Park Chan - wook's «
Oldboy» was also a film after his own heart), so it'll be interesting to see if he's similarly persuasive in Venice.

Oldboy), a petty customs officer
on the docks who pads his income with bribes, discovers that he is related to a yakuza - connected gangster when he stumbles across contraband heroine and decides to sell it himself.
Oldboy was amazingly paced, but quite a small scale movie, the narrative focused
on the hauntingly surreal journey of one man.
Oldboy director Chan - wook Park takes
on this tale of a young girl who becomes infatuated with her mysterious uncle, in theaters this March.
And considering both «
Oldboy» and «Thirst» made their way there, we believe it, but as always it will depend
on how far along post-production he gets before May arrives.

Oldboy,» based
on Korean director Park Chan - wook's 2003 film of the same name, tells the story of Joe Doucett, an alcoholic washout who is kidnapped and held in a small motel room for 20 years, then released back into society.
Before filming, Brolin said he visited Park to seek approval to remake «
Oldboy,» but Park also gave him and Lee some crucial advice
on tackling the unsettling drama.
