Open cluster Messier 23 (M23, NGC 6494) is another glorious sight for small telescopes and binoculars in the summer Milky Way.

This beautiful object, a combination of an emission nebula (NGC 6618) and
open cluster (also NGC 6618), was discovered by Chesaux in the spring of 1746, before it was rediscovered by
Messier in June of the same year.
Although this is what
Messier discovered, it is interesting that, within this stellar cloud which is easily visible to the naked eye, there's a dim
open cluster, NGC 6603, of magnitude 11.
Messier 17 is a star forming region with an
open cluster, and it is part of a larger cloud of molecular gas found in the direction of Sagittarius.
Messier 46 (M46) is an
open star
cluster located in the southern constellation Puppis, the Stern.
