Some dogs don't care for
the open wire crates with the slide - out tray that rattles.
I personally use
open wire crates for my own puppies.
Though most Puppy People prefer
this open wire crate, I actually slightly prefer (and I think puppies do too) the plastic Ultra Vari Kennel listed below.
When investing in
an open wire crate, I recommend you choose one that easily folds up.

The open wire crate will make your puppy feel part of the family while being restrained while you are not able to supervise.

The nice thing about
wire crates is that they are
open and let your puppy see out when he's inside.

Some dogs prefer a plastic, more enclosed type

I left the door
open on my lab puppy's
crate (a
wire cage that a full grown dog could stand in) whenever she was out of the
crate.

wires and / or push
open the side of the
crate that does not have a door.
Wire crates are a decent choice, but since they are
open and less den - like, they're not our first choice for
crate training an adult dog who's having difficulties.
