We try and
camp on sites close to travel routes of
orcas, humpback whales, and other wildlife, but actual spots depend on weather, tides, and group objectives.
Our first day will be spent exploring the islands of the Broughton Archipelago or the
orca waters of Johnstone Strait (depending on your starting point), and enjoying the stunning views and wildlife while en route to
camp for the night.
We go in search of wild Killer Whales or
Orcas and Humpback Whales in their natural environment, before leaving the deep water behind to explore ancient village sites with white shell beaches and discover sheltered coves where we will
camp for the night, led by our experienced, qualified guides using top quality equipment.

camp and listening to the
Orcas with hydrophones; Enjoy free time at
camp — Stay with the group or explore the beach and forest alone; Seek out the waterfall or laze in a hammock watching for wildlife.
The
camp is surrounded by old growth rainforest and is right in the heart of the wildlife rich waters of Johnstone Strait, recognized as one of the most predictable places in the world to kayak with both
orcas and humpback whales.
Discover the wildlife and scenery of Johnstone Strait & Queen Charlotte Strait while paddling between
camps and listening to the
Orcas with hydrophones; Paddle Blackney Passage and into Blackfish sound and investigate the shallows in search of colorful, inter-tidal creatures.
We have six different Base
Camps located in Johnstone Strait and Queen Charlotte Strait; all within the summer range of the Northern Resident
Orcas.
You will likely of seen the
camp fire in the distance from the «
Orca Lounge» on Hanson Island.
If lucky, you may see
Orca or Humpback whales as they swim by the
camp, however this is less likely than on our tours departing from Telegraph Cove.

Orca Dreams whale watching
camp.
The
Orca Dreams
camp, located on a small island off northen Vancouver Island, was designed with comfort in mind while still offering a wilderness experience.
Orca Dreams offers four - day all - inclusive tours from our luxury island
camp site in the wildlife rich area of Northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
Not only did we see at least one humpback a day (several times from the beach at
camp), but we also saw more than a dozen
orcas as well.
Orca whale watching is suberb on this kayak trip, like all of our
camping adventures in the San Juan Islands.
We have witnessed this VERY special
orca behavior right from

When averaged through the entire season,
orca whales are seen on nearly two / thirds of our
camping trips, but the peak months historically afford an 80 % sighting success rate.
The Sea Kayak Adventure basecamp in the Johnstone Strait is the most - desired location in the area and it is not uncommon to see
orcas swim within 20 - 40» of the
camp!
Full - height canvas tents with sleeping cots await you at each of these wilderness base
camps, so you can enjoy the
orcas without the hassle of making and breaking
camp or hauling a tent.
The base
camp's shoreline is composed of sea - polished stones that lure an
orca to rub its 6 - ton body along the beach, or herd salmon into the curve of the shore.
The Johnstone Strait is considered the best place to see
orcas in the wild, and this tour includes 2 nights
camping in one of the prime
orca - viewing locations in the area.
If weather permits, you'll stay at three different base
camps on three different islands on the heart of the
orca loop.
My favorite wildlife encounter is watching a pod of
orcas rubbing themselves on the rocks in front of our base
camp at Little Kaikash — my favorite SKA basecamp.
Camping along
orca waters provided 24 - hours - a-day to see, hear and understand
orcas and the rest of their marine environment.
There was only one unlucky
camping adventure in the entire month that didn't find either a pod of
orcas or porpoises, but more than half got to see both the big guys and the little ones on the same trip.
One can stand on the rocks next to
camp and watch the
orcas pass by within several meters.
We never just «wait around for
orcas» on the base
camp.
The

camp.

We'll meet you at the red kiosk at 11:30 am, gather your luggage, and transfer to our water taxi for the one hour journey to
Orca Dreams
camp.

After a brief introduction at the red kiosk we will gather our luggage and transfer on to our water taxi to begin our 1 hour journey through the wildlife rich waters of Johnstone Strait to the
Orca Dreams
camp.
Today, our visiting humpback whales swam past Lime Kiln Whale Watching Park, traveled along our one day trip kayak trip route, and then northwards along San Juan Island, following the exact route that the
orca whales usually take, and the same one our multi-day kayak
camping expeditions use.
