Her canvases are unprimed and the sometimes bare surfaces are a deliberate part of the work, just as while some paintings imply the image continues beyond the physical constraints of the canvas, others are literally framed.

In the Museum's first use of a double - sided frame, the exhibition presents verified Clyfford Still artworks in juxtaposition with the undocumented painting's front composition, as well as other Still works that could relate to the painting's reverse composition.

This seems to contribute to my sometimes seeing the bottom «half» of the painting as sitting forward of the top «half» and sometimes seeing the other harder shapes as framing the soft fleshy area.

Woodman stages the other side of the space like a walled garden or interior courtyard with paintings on canvas and ceramic hung on the walls framed as «windows.»

Other highlights from the sweeping exhibition include Romare Bearden's Jazz 1930s — The Savoy (1964), South Korean artist Lee Lee - Nam's digital video Early Spring Drawing - Four Seasons 2 (2011), a pair of Lakota gauntlets (ca. 1890), photography by Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Roy DeCarava, and Gertrude Käsebier; paintings by Emile Bernard, Ed Blackburn, Archie Scott Gobber, and Albert Bloch, sculptures by James Henry Haseltine and Tip Toland; works on paper by Kara Walker, George Copeland Ault, Miguel Rivera, and Jules Olitski; and decorative arts including a Christopher Dresser claret jug and umbrella stand, a frame by Archibald Knox, and jewelry by the late artist Marjorie Schick.

Some of your paintings are framed, while others are exposed to the elements.

During his residence at Olana, Church framed many of those pictures, including a few large paintings, expressly for presentation in his home, and over a hundred others remain preserved there.

The other exhibition «Passion — Resurrection» explores paintings that are committed to brightness and cheerfulness, flowers and sunlight and framed by pictures telling the story of passion and suffering.

Blending elements of fairy tales, history, myths, and reality she creates unique scenarios that include, among many other elements, references to the 1960's television series The Avengers, The Beatles, Little Red Riding Hood, ballet stages like Giselle's Cottage at the Bolshoi, photographs of dead squirrels and birds reminiscent of Dutch still - life paintings, gold frames, velvet curtains, mirrors, cobwebs, swords, and axes accompanied by sound - tracks of 18th century choral and harpsichord music as well as the sound of clinging crystal chandeliers.

It's nothing but blue skies, or at least blue - framed views, when you paint windows and window trim to mirror the hues on the other side of the glass.

Because the wall has lots of pink (more on that next week), I didn't want to paint a frame pink, but started with the other 3 main colors, but wasn't quite sure what I'd do with the center two frames.
