Why does Wenger persist with
Ox as a midfielder?
WTF does Wenger persist with
Ox as a midfielder?
The power of Ramsey and
Ox as our midfield engines.
Not exact matches
Walcott should not start
as a first teamer he is a bench player I'd rather have the
ox there with sanchez on the other wing.
As for the central
midfielders I'd like to see xhaka with cazorla with ozil just behind giroud.I won't be able to see the match but i hope we win or else its curtains for another title challenge: -LRB-
Jack and Flamini to hold the
midfield and Ozil or Santi
as CAM,
Ox and Sanchez wingers that is the inly way to play Chelsea.
But
as to replacing the
Ox before this window shut, I think Arsenal should try to find a top quality
midfielder far better than the
Ox as replacement for him if they get one and fee is agreed.
Our rotated defence will have the extra protection of tweo holding
midfielders in the absence of Coquelin at least, with Wenger going for Arteta and Flamini
as a double pivot and it looks like Aaron Ramsey will be our number 10, with the
Ox and Joel Campbell on either side of Olivier Giroud in attack.
None of them even deserves to start, if i was the manager i would replace them with the
ox since walcot is back or may may be use Campbell up front (the
ox's power and directness will be of great use
as a back to back
midfielder)
obviously I would prefer to have a much more suitable alternative in the defensive
midfielder positions but if they focused more on defensive end and the occasional long - ball, this would allow Bellerin and Sead ample opportunities to bomb forward on their respective wings while still having enough cover to maintain their defensive shape... it would likewise allow for overlapping runs on both wings, thereby letting both Sanchez and Perez to cut inside and get shots away in and around the top of the box with their most dominant feet... if goals were needed I would sub Bellerin for
OX and bring Ramsey in for Elneny then switch to a 3 -2-4-1 (more of a 3 -1-5-1 with Ramsey playing higher up the pitch) and I would only use Giroud
as a sub when the game dictated it for tactical reasons... this would allow us to be a high energy team with incredible link - up play and a much more direct approach in the offensive end
Spot on We don't really need anymore offensive players
as Ramsey / ozil /
ox etc theo, Sanchez, rosicky Cazorla and poldi are capable of throwing their hat into the ring for a goal or 2 and are without doubt the best
midfielders in the league..
I only wish to focus on those who can play in the CF position (
as that's what everyone's getting bent out of shape about) but it is clear we have wide players who can score and we have players who can do so from
midfield, some of whom are still developing — like Wilshere, Ramsay, the
Ox — and from whom most of expect to see more and more this season.
Generally agree —
Ox good, but still no end product, Welbeck — good effort, sorry but not enough if we want to win things, Xhaka needs protection of a good CDM, Özil a luxury we can't currently afford, Ramsey good if we again had someone filling the
midfield behind him — We just need a great CDM (
as per the previous 7 + years) to give us a solid platform we desperately need.
You all obviously asking for a cm when we all know wenger will rather use
ox as a central
midfielder this season.
Nice line - up, I'd prefer that 3 back line all day, except it will be Gabriel for mustafi, that's grit, steel, aggression and intelligence at our back line, but imagine monreal
as a CB when we have Gabriel, holding, I don't understand wenger Mustafi goes into tackles headlessly The front line and
midfield is also super human, just dat Ozil is a pussy against aggressive and big teams, I'll prefer
ox or Wilshere or mahrez....
Midfield is really a place that we really DO NT need any more acquisitions, in fact we could do with selling Walcott and maybe the
OX (Walcott especially rankles me
as I feel he's lazy and ineffective and has lumbered himself on us forever
as he can not justify his wage bill.)
So the second would probably need to be a central
midfielder (or another wing back if
Ox stays and is used
as a utility player where he plays across the wing back positions both sides or central
midfield if needed)
Gonzalo Huigine or Lacazetteg Wingers or Attacking
midfielders we don not need at all
as we have some of the best in these two postions Do not forget we have Gnarby also along with with
OX and Theo, Welbeck also can play in wings May be solid CB
he is amazing picking up balls in
midfield and dribbling past two or three player but then his finishing lets him down If he could only learn to pass he would be amazing, he must remeber Arsenal plays
as a team and
Ox looks the lonely wolf
Walcott's position is same
as Ox but they dnt have same role,
Ox is more a
midfielder while Walcott is more a forward, moving into the box very often like a Muller - type winger,
Ox is like a Willian so I dnt see how
Ox ll take that position either.
OX is not
as disciplined in central
midfield as Cazorla.
In the
midfield, (including RWB & LWB) we have a whole bunch of tweeners... none offer the full package, none make sense in our manager's current favourite formation, except for Sead on the left and
Ox on the right, and all of them have never shown any consistency for more than a heartbeat... Sead, who I'm including in this category because of our present formation, looks like a positive addition, minus his occasional brain farts, but I would rather see what he could do in a back 4 before making my mind up...
Ox, who has never played better, which isn't saying much considering his largely underwhelming play in previous seasons, seems to have found a home in this new formation; unfortunately, can we really expect this oft - injured player to handle the taxing duties that come with said position over the long haul, not to mention, it looks like he has no intention of staying... Ramsey has relied on the empathy that stems from his gruesome injury years ago and the excitement that was generated a few years back when he finally seemed to put in altogether, but on the whole he has been a big disappointment (neither he nor the
Ox have scored enough to warrant a regular spot)... Wiltshire should be put on a weekly contract then played until he suffers his first injury, if and when that occurs he should be shipped - out and no one should very be allowed to say his name on club grounds ever again... Elnehy & Coq are average players who couldn't make any of the top 7 teams currently in the EPL... both have showed some great energy on the pitch, but neither are top quality and no good team can afford to have that many average players on their bench playing the same position, especially with Coq's injury history / discipline concerns and Elheny's headless chicken tendencies...
as for Xhaka, his tenure here so far has been incredibly underwhelming... we know he has some skills to provide the long ball but his defensive work is piss poor and he gives the ball away too cheaply and far too often... finally, the enigma himself, Ozil, so much skill with his left foot but his presence has been more frustrating than uplifting... in many respects his failure has been directly related to the failure of this club to provide him with the necessary players up front, minus Sanchez of course, and unless something drastic happens very soon his legacy will be largely a negative one (much like Wenger's)
I know
Ox envisions his future
as the next Gerrard but honestly he isnt going to supllant any of the current Arsenal or Liverpool
midfielders.
Or alternatively a great defensive
midfielder as we do nt really have one and if so then I would also prefer
Ox to be right back a la Danni Alves..
I would take a massive risk and play Chambers in DM,
Ox in
midfield, Bellerin
as RB and Campbell
as a winger.
I know the pessimism hasnt left you guys but lets look at the facts (they arent positive but not
as negative
as we fans think) debuchy for all his moaning is a good RB and we have great cover for LB and RB, i for one am happy that we have kept debuchy after selling / loaning
ox and carl, and our cbs arent that bad in a 4 back system, and our
midfielders arent that bad
as we think in a 4231/433 and our forwards are superb and we have kept sanchez and özil (i know most of you do nt like özil) and we have to remember that just last year we bought xhaka a cm and mustafi a cb
no one in the league has a better
Midfield, Ramsey, Cazorla, Ozil (especially
as he played yesterday),
OX, even Wheelchair lots of potential, Walcott proved he can be our Striker, the rotation Wenger played yesterday with Walcott and GIROUD could be the solution to our problems, each one scored in each halve...... Welbeck well there might be where we need a third striker, Welbeck is not consistent...... so an backup for COQ and a third proven Striker should bring us the title next year
Hope he fully recovers
as soon
as possible possible but in the meantime we have a strong Central
midfield with Cazorla, Xhaka, Coquelin, Eleney, Bielik and
Ox can play cm too
and thier injuries need to be manage better maybe less playing time for some than others, unfortunately wenger cant afford to give them the proper time of his coaching,
as he is under massive pressure to succeed these days and hasn't got time to train them up properly, also he isn't tactically flexible enough to accommodate them into different attacking systems, to test what they can do like having the
ox in a 3 man
midfield could work wonders.
The only thing which makes our team unbalanced is playing the luxury item we bought called ozil.I thought he would need time to adjust to physicality of premier league so i supported him, but the guy hasn't improved he tries to dribble past ppl but runs into them somehow, tries to do showboating at unnecessary time which he fails to do miserably. And i see him giving too many back passes when he should drive forward. And the biggest reason i stopped liking him
as a player is bcoz of his sulky attitude. No passion or drive for the club,
as if he wanted to be at some other club and is just doing the job without his heart in it.He neeeds to be placed on the bench and make him work hard to retain his place.Ramsey and coq in middle with
ox and sanchez on both wing and cazorla
as cam will make us a more balanced
midfield.
They won't... Just have to, play the best available 11 at least in first 45
as a warm up to Friday... So would try
ox or Iwobi
as the b2b
midfielder as Ramsey or elneny are bench quality at best
We definitely need a WC central
midfielder, and maybe promote a reserve player
as well, or use the
Ox in that position when needed.
The full extent of the injury picked up by the Arsenal and England international
midfielder Alex Oxlade - Chamberlain is yet to be found out,
as the 22 - year old is due to have further tests today but after the initial assessment of him yesterday it is not looking too promising for the
Ox.
I remember AW saying many moons ago that he ultimately saw the
Ox as an attacking
midfielder, not a winger.
However we've seen
as fans that
Ox performs much better playing centre of the part, allowing the
midfield to have a lot more pace and control,
as well
as being even more dynamic in playing style and passing.
We need at least one centre back, 2 central
midfielders and a replacement for
Ox as it seems like he's leaving.
The
midfielder would likely be viewed
as a long - term replacement for Santi Cazorla, while those central roles would be shared between the
Ox, Ramsey, Xhaka and one of Elneny and Coquelin.
The attacking Central
midfield role must go to Ramsey
as 1st choice at the moment, but this should also be rotated with Jack and
Ox who I thought showed huge potential in that role last season.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch
midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects,
as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used
Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise...
as for our
midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the
midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch...
as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's
midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to
Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part
as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3,
Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be
Ox due to his potential
as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense
as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
The
Ox also enjoyed his best term, impressing largely in many outings in various positions, but I'm not sure his best play is seen when is placed behind the striker, and looks much more competent playing
as a wing - back or central
midfielder.
In addition, the
Ox admitted recently that despite his success at wing - back, his desire was to play in
midfield and any promise in that regard may contribute to a potential departure
as well.
Cazorla and the
Ox should already be back with Arsenal after Spain and England played their second qualifying games yesterday and our Spanish
midfielder in particular will not be happy
as he was an unused sub in their win over Luxembourg.
He may not be a good tackler but
as our
midfield is now steel and muscle now (xhaka, kolasinac,
ox) we can afford to have a creative
midfielder like James.
Yes, he can do eyecatching things, but never plays well 2 games in a row, and
as our biggest problem is opponents playing through our
midfield like it is a Sunday game in the park,
OX is not the answer.
The
Ox played many roles when he was at Arsenal, and his last was
as a wing - back, but he always said that his preferred position was in central
midfield, but Wenger kept putting him in any position on the pitch with little success.
Arsenal have plenty of
midfielders and other players who can play the LW better (
Ox, Campbell, Poldi) The competition would be good — it keeps them fresh — and at least one of them would might emerge
as an improved player.
Flamini and the
Ox have a big job today to stop Gerrard, Henderson, Lucas and Markovic from controlling the
midfield but
as long
as they can cope with that, Arsenal should have a much better day than the last time we were here.
wenger is a very stuborn manager and his actions
as always caused us games, i will continue to say this when arsenal plays with pace they do well i remember when playing ramsey on the wing he was awful same
as diaby also when we had denilson and fabregas in
midfield van persie would come into the middle to assist play but since we have good midfieders now i expect wenger to use proper wingers such
as ox, campbell, sanchez, serge, theo e.t.c. putting midfieders on the wing loses pact and we» r easily caged.
The
Ox has also been done well
as a central
midfielder this term, but Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey are also proving their worth in central roles now, and will almost certainly line up alongside each other on Sunday.
At times liv can have seven
midfielders so i think it is important for Sanchez and other side to oftenly get in the space near corner flag
as the wing backs will have to retreat from
midfield making five at back but giving us space in the centre of park... Sanchez and hopefully Welbeck /
Ox will have to be totally on there game.
If we did that - we wouldn't have Bellerin in defence (
midfielder),
Ox at Wingback, Sanchez sometime upfront, Henry
as a striker — the list goes on
