Completely agree we were best with santi and
Ozil running the midfield....

The guy had a great game v west ham but his ego lets him down, but Wenger his comments on the defensive cock ups, it is the same comments on all the losses so surely he needs to rectify the prob Number one drop the BF German that can't head a ball can't
run he is a liability every time he puts on the shirt even Debuchy jumps higher than him Gibbs can't defend he is a nice guy but not first choice L Back Chocqelen has proved he is a good player that can get better what we need is an
Ozil type
midfielder that has more guts to play good balls through to runners not high balls that you hope will find a target So a defender that can defend a left back and a
midfielder and then look out enough is enough on what the problems are If the car won't
run right you Fix it Wenger now is the time to FIX it CB
It's difficult to blame
Ozil for the difficulties he's faced at Arsenal without looking at the big picture... like the fans, he too was lied to by Wenger... there is no doubt in my mind that he was told by Wenger that he was trying desperately to recreate our earlier success by acquiring players that fit the system he
ran when Henry was in his prime... as we know this hasn't happened... in order for Ozl to flourish he needs some speed up front, forwards that can make intelligent
runs, a boss in the
midfield to compensate for his obvious defensive liabilities and defenders who can transition from defence to offence quickly and efficiently... much like he had in Real and with the German National squad... unfortunately he ended up on a squad that has a striker who plays with his back to goal, very few intelligent
runs into the box, minus Sanchez, no one to take pressure off him in the
midfield, once Cazorla was injured, average defensive
midfielders around him, which simply highlighted his lacking defensive qualities and defenders who lack the necessary cutting edge when it comes to transitional passing... instead of blaming
Ozil, which is simply too easy, especially considering his mopey disposition, we should be asking ownership and / or Wenger why they brought him in if they didn't intend on doing what was necessary to get the best from him... can you imagine
Ozil playing with the likes of Henry, Viera, Petit and Pires, it would be incredibly to watch and even more difficult to stop... so the only thing different between his experiences in Real and with the German team versus his time at Arsenal are the players around him and we all know who is in charge of making those decisions, the Grinch who stole soccer
He will NEVER be a proficient B2B
midfielder because he lacks the necessary defensive discipline and honestly suffocates
Ozils creative space with his mindless bombing
runs forward.
Control the
midfield (& game) with Ramsey And co (sanchez /
Ozil / Santi) making
runs from deep to create the 2nd / 3rd strikers when the moment is right.
Quick notes on arsemal team 1 - paulista is not good as i though 2 - coquelin is essential in arsenal
midfield to give stability but he can't hold the ball in his feet or give the right pass in the right time so we can't dominate teams anymore especially with santi absence 3 - ramsey = horrible, just a headless chicken
running everywhere 4 -
ozil could have easily 30 + assists by now 5 - Olivier Giroud the handsom french guy shouldn't ever be a big team first choice striker 6 - where are the 4 world class strikers that wenger said we had i didn't se anyone of the yet
Let's not get carried away and think Wenger has learned his lessons he has not overnight become a tactical genius he was forced to play that way when
ozil was not fit to play had he been available he would definitely played and then would have same defensive problems as before with
midfield over
run and
ozil not tracking back to help so probably would have been beaten!!
He occupies defenders so there's space for others to move into and get chances, but we had no one moving forward into that space, it was all just
midfielders —
Ozil, Ramsey, Cazorla looking for a forward pass, not a forward
run.
Ramsay in my view is an attacking MF who can make
runs into the box and nick goals but lacks discipline in a central
midfield pairing and unless we lose a winger or cm (or perhaps
Ozil) is better benched and used as a sub.
This is a waste of a physically light player in the very physical Premier League; the 4 -4-2 formationwould surround
Ozil with 5 fast players to
run onto his through balls, giving our
midfield and forward players the opportunity to be where they need to be both to score goals and to benefit from the silky passes we know
Ozil is capable of.
Arsenal are believed to be eyeing the Turkish
midfielder as a potential replacement for
Ozil, who currently appears to be
running down his contract as he seeks an exit from his current side.
I would love to see a big dm option come in, but again with all our
midfield options due back by the time we face spurs (in 5 matches time) I can see wenger
running with 2 of cazorla rosicky chamberlain
ozil ramsey wilshire arteta zelalem diaby and niles, playing either side of coquelin flamini chambers or hayden, again 14 options for 3 positions will be considered enough by wenger.
Possible rotations which wouldn't weaken the team significantly... Gab for Per Debuchy for Hector (if Debuchy is alright) Gibbs for Monreal Theo for Rambo (Theo can play as a true RW with Debuchy being restraint in his forward
runs) Jack for Santi (Jack to do the Deep Lying role) Welbz for Sanchez (stick to the right... will support Gibbs on his forward
runs) Rosicky for
Ozil (TR7 is still an effective creator and adds bite to the
midfield)

He gives them energy and bite in central
midfield and would surely be charged with stopping Mesut
Ozil from
running riot.
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch
midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely
runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our
midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the
midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have
Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's
midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
Cazorla and
Ozil can do all the neat work in
midfield, but there's very little
running in front of them.
Our
midfield would be very strong as well allowing
Ozil or Carzorla freedom to wade their magic and freedom for our wingers to
run the hell out of opposing defenders...... what do you think guys?
Very complete
midfielders, but now we have soft and pretty Xhaka who can't even
run fast, Elneny the less I say the better, Wilshere is average and not a DM, Ramsey is the next
Ozil, getting terrorized by a single Dembele..
If we see
ozil on the right it'd be to have a 3 man
midfield with Ramsey providing extra protection and his late
runs into the box
We don't have anyone making good forward
runs in between the defence,
Ozil should be doing it seeing as Alexis is coming back into
midfield for the ball.
The Gunners
midfielder Mesut
Ozil, who is on a great
run of form this season with 9 assists and two goals so far, feels that Arsene Wenger's side is like a family but listen to what the German international calls Francis Coquelin.
But when people are saying we should sign X-player who contributed well last season while playing every single game for «depth» sure, on paper it looks great, but a lot of players hit patches of form that may not necessarily be given that opportunity here, as there may be someone else in the squad who hits the ground
running and contributes straight away... If Coquelin, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Ramsey, AOC,
Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky are all fit and firing, I think you're sorely mistaken if you think anything but a truly world - class
midfielder would be looking at those names and not potentially evaluating their first - team opportunities.
So what you are saying is you expect
Ozil to be
running onto his own throughballs and the fact that he isn't means our other
midfielders are having to vacate their positions?
I am a bit surprised to see that it is the England forward Theo Walcott who misses out though, with club record signing Mesut
Ozil keeping his place in a wider role and Santi Cazorla continuing to
run things in a central attacking
midfield position.
Our winning
run has «coincided» with
Ozil playing in his preferred position in central
midfield.
Midfielders are not strikers, just because they're skillfull does not mean they should be making 30yard
runs like Messi, please use your brain before criticizing,
Ozil didn't win Germany player of the year 5 times for no reason.
While it wasn't exactly a vintage display from Arsenal,
Ozil ran the show from
midfield with some fine passing and, of course, the superbly - taken winning goal in the first half.
Every half decent team would over
run us in
midfield due to
Ozil's lack of fight, endurance, defensive awareness etc...
He's versatile,
runs for days, shows leadership which a lot of our most talented
midfielder's lack and IMO could be a lift for the team of
Ozil / Sanchez proportions.
I'm not certain how it would play out but it would have been interesting to see Perez playing in a front 3 with Sanchez and Lacazette, with Perez on the right, but in order to do that we would need a true defensive
midfielder so that we could still have
Ozil in the middle, playing behind the front 3, and Sead and Ox / Bellerin taking turns making wide side
runs... unfortunately Wenger has made sure that could never happen because it would require buying the proper back 3 to handle this situation and he would have to bench his beloved Walcott and Ramsey on a regular basis... like I said before, I'm very concerned that Wenger will play Lacazette out wide on the left with Giroud in the middle, which means Sead will likely be in the back 3 and Ox will be played in the left wing - back position, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever... God, I hope I'm wrong
Ozil needs to be played more centrally if we hope to benefit from his creativity with the ball and Welbeck's first touch is far too sloppy to be played along side Lacazette... we need to find a formation which allows more service to those making
runs from the middle of the pitch... Lacazette can not play so much with his back to goal or we're simply playing the same unsuccessful offensive scheme we played with Giroud, who is much better in that type of role... I can only hope we keep Sanchez and purchase a true defensive
midfielder then switch to a 4 -4-1-1, which allows us to have
Ozil play more centrally with Sead and Sanchez on the left side and Ox and Bellerin on the right, which would stretch defences so much that we could overwhelm most opponents with both
runs in behind and overlapping
runs out wide
ps: btw did anyone notice the instance when
ozil lost the ball in
midfield and was more interested in pointing something out to another player rather than
running back and stopping the counter attack?
My interest in the diamond 4 is to have
Ozil playing close to 2 strikers (Sanchez and Vardy) a DM (Xhaka, Coq), A deep lying playmaker (Cazorla,) playing close to the DM who can dribble and play long balls, A box to box
Midfield general who can
run and cover grounds.
There were lots of sweets moments in that match; Sanchez perfect ball to
Ozil, Holding's ball playing and aerial dominance, Xhaka's tantalizing forward passes and defensive awareness, Cazorla's technical excellence and nerve settling penalty goal,
Ozil's
run from
midfield to create an option for Sanchez, Walcott was busy throughout, and Cech's outstanding saves....
They had chances and couldn't convert, we had fewer and took 2 of it, Sanogo had a good game, needs a lil more
run in the side, could be a great alternative to giroud, loved his diagonal
runs, which i haven't seen us do for a while, drew defenders away from our
midfielders, probablythe reason
ozil had a good game, i mean, Giroud loves to come in deep to get the ball, i don't see the need for that, his link up play is not so good, neither can he dribble, like say a suarez or sturridge, so playing to ones strenght is better atimes, just stick to what you do best!
Oxlade - Chamberlain is one of three key players whose deals
run out at the end of the season, alongside forward Alexis Sanchez and
midfielder Mesut
Ozil.
There was a lot of rumors regarding the highly rated
midfielder's future as many news outlets spread out false information about
Ozil leaving the club either this January transfer window or in the summer as a free player after he
ran out a contract.
