PUBG, are we likely to see continued harsh punishments for players breaking the rules in Battle Royale games, or is this
just a symptom of its own success.

Considering that
PUBG was the one that popularized the battle royal game genre and Fortnite came out
just half a year after
PUBG, it's not a baseless accusation.
but this is due to the fact that it has already got a huge player base and most gamers have already purchased the game so
PUBG going free to play will
just be pointless and they would have to compensate for the people who have paid for the game by giving them free in - game gifts or something along those lines.
It's hard to argue that Fortnite Battle Royale does not closely resemble
PUBG,
just with a different style and some building mechanics.
PUBG allows players to get up close and personal with their rivals (or to
just plain run away) with an old buggy or something similar, whereas in Fortnite, you need to run as fast as you can instead.
