On
the Pacific side of the peninsula, not far from the US border, the small volcanic profile of Guadalupe Island sits 150 miles offshore.
Surfers staying in Montezuma will head over to
the pacific side of the peninsula when the waves are too small in Montezuma, since St Teresa faces out to the pacific and thus catches more, and bigger swells.

of the gray whales), and on the East
side of Baja is the Sea
of Cortez (Gulf
of California) that divides Baja from mainland Mexico.
