The Catholic church set the birth of Jesus to be at the same time of
the pagan holidays of the Winter Solstice, which the Romans called Saturnalia.
The religious also don't want to realize that «Christmas» was stolen from
the Pagan holiday of «Winter Solstice».
It could be worded better, but Easter in this post is in reference to the resurrection of Jesus, not
the pagan holiday of «where's the eggs?».
Valentine's Day originally had it's origins in the Roman
pagan holiday of Lupercalia Day.

There is usually lots
of controversy surrounding Christmas, whether or not it is a

Jesus is in the business
of redemption, and just as Jesus has redeemed you and I, He redeems the cultural elements and traditions that surround us, including

But more than that, and here is the best part, and also the part that explains why I revel in
pagan holidays, through the grace
of Jesus, if He can redeem me from my slavery to sin, why can not He also redeem stories?

of Yehoshua with the old

I'm not Christian anymore, but I celebrate it as a family day, because you know, quite frankly, we need at least one
of those each year (and besides, whatever name it has, it was co-opted by Christians from a much older,
pagan holiday, so it's fair game).
Christian
holidays ARE based
of the seasons, but not all
of them just the winter solstace and the spring solstace because when Christians were trying to convert
Pagans into Christianity they figured it would be easier if the clebrations they had were around the same times.
So if people truly want to rid themselves
of all things
pagan, they need to start not with their
holidays and traditions, but with their theology.

We do also practice tradition, not as tenants
of our faith though.Tradition at our house holds that the birthday person picks the meal, it also includes giving gifts at christmas.Not because it was created the same day as a
pagan holiday, but because it is a family tradition.

It occurs to me that
of the major Western
holidays, Halloween is the only one that originated with Christendom but got handed over to the
pagans.
Halloween is the
holiday equivalent
of Wicca — a 20th century invention that pretends to have ancient
pagan roots.
Some people use it perhaps in this context, but wheni say say Christmas is a religious
holiday in which
pagans amd Christians celebrated it, it means that people
of varying faiths celebrated it.
From the vestments (which are really nothing more than the Fourth Century CE court clothing
of the Eastern Roman Empire), the canonized saints (which are essentially «Christian» demigods that replaced the
pagan pantheon), the numerous feast days and holy days (which replaced
pagan holidays), the statues and painted icons (which replaced
pagan idols), and the episcopal structure (in which «third sons»
of landed aristocrats who had no hope
of inheriting their fathers» titles and lands could become «princes
of the church» with as much worldly comfort as the «first sons» and almost as much wealth and power), the Anglican Church was practically indistinguishable from the Roman Church except that they used English in the Mass instead
of Latin.
But the fact is, there is a
pagan holiday for this time
of year, and the ancient church usurped it to bring focus on the Christian event at this time
of year — the Ressurection
of Christ.
And a great many people have attacked atheists about them celebrating Christmas, in our secular way, with the
pagan traditions that make up most
of the Christmas
holiday.
A tree nor Santa have anything to do with christianity and if you knew anything about your
holiday you would know that it is based off
of pagan tradition largely.
