The researchers tracked down
pairs of students in public spaces — the
student union or the cafeteria — and asked them to fill out a questionnaire designed to
measure a wide swath
of social attitudes, behaviors and values that might matter in a friendship.

of Educators 4 Excellence - Los Angeles, support using this data as long as it's
paired with other
measures like classroom observations, peer reviews and
student surveys.
By requiring the states to set high standards,
pairing them with assessments that
measured whether
students were achieving those standards, and holding schools accountable if
students failed to do so, NCLB, in the eyes
of its sponsors, would close achievement gaps and make America's schools the envy
of the world.
Throughout three years
of project implementation,
PAIR researchers collected and analyzed data drawn from randomized classroom cohorts that resulted in seven different types
of teacher professional development (PD) variables and four different
measures of student learning.
The
measure compares the median
of a
student's progress against comparable children statewide, and
pairs that progress — or lack
of it — to a specific teacher.
