For those of you that read about the Pandigital Planet II earlier in the week, I regret to inform you that such a creature does not exist.

There are a bunch of other e-readers out there (including the Aluratek Libre, Velocity Cruz, Augen Book, Pandigital Novel, Cybook Opus, Ectaco JetBook, Sharper Image Literati, and a bunch of Android - based tablet computers), but each suffers from serious problems: many use LCD screens that are harder on the eyes, yet don't even have the redeeming features of the iPad or Nook Color; several are overpriced; most of them lack features; and many don't interface easily with a decent e-book store.

Considering I can get another Pandigital Novel (white, which has better specs than the black) from Kohl's this weekend (if in stock) for about $ 5 more after discounts / price - match with OfficeMax / rebate, I would much rather do that for an ereader bigger than my Archos 5, with a lot of Android capabilities such as Nook, Kindle and Borders apps that will do the decryption for me and have the wifi for direct downloads (and the music player will work ok, although some PDN owners with better hearing have complained about the sound quality).

Video plays smoothly, the only problem is that I've been having troubles with the sound syncing up, which is strange because it doesn't do that on the Pandigital Planet.

Bear in mind, the Pandigital Novel has a relatively sluggish CPU which was really just meant to power an eBook reader, so don't be surprised if some of the animations and other visual elements look a bit slow.

Because of all the reading apps and news apps you can install, the 9» Pandigital Novel makes a good ereader if you don't mind reading on an LCD display and aren't bothered by the lower resolution.
