SEGA America announced via blog that the next portable installment of
the Phantasy Star series will reach US and European retailers later this year.
Also, a few staples of
the Phantasy Star series make their apperance in the original game — including the Dark Force (called Dark Falz in Phantasy Star Universe), and the mysterious dark planet Rykros.
Combat has been enhanced as well, with familiar action - style combat of
the Phantasy Star series augmented with all new features and abilities.
In
the Phantasy Star series, Earth is mentioned twice, with each instance being set far in the future.

«old school Phantasy Star» refers to the original

Phantasy Star II opens 1,000 years after the end of the first game, and features both the return of
series antagonist Dark Falz, as well as the introduction of the
series» other major villian, Mother Brain.

We still have the imminent return of the Shining RPG
series to look forward to, most obviously with Shining Force for PlayStation 2, but there's also the prospect of two new
Phantasy Star titles as well.
The final game in the 2D
Phantasy Star RPG
series is debatably the best.
