Picture contender (I don't think so).
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which was liked by many, doesn't seem like a strong
contender, but it wouldn't be totally jarring if the Globe's voters want to honor a nice
picture for the older demographic.

does very well in this category, but can their 3
contenders make it?

Consider that James Ivory still doesn't have one despite being a masterful oft imitated but never duplicated director behind three major Best
Picture contenders (and many other beautiful films) and never having won an an Oscar and being 88 years old.
We all like to talk about Oscar's bias against comedy... but when one
does emerge as a
contender, many of us immediately see it as some lightweight usurper: I still can't believe The Artist was the film to beat for Best
Picture in 2011.
No one seriously considered Defiance as a Best
Picture contender and it doesn't match the genre qualifications.
