This year is no exception, as some films rallied to make it to the Best
Picture nominations list and some actors received nods despite earlier doubts.
And beginning with the 2010 Oscars, up to 10 movies could be nominated for Best Picture, making it technically possible for all 10 Golden Globe Best Picture nominations (in both the Drama and Comedy / Musical categories) to also appear in the Oscar Best
Picture nominations list.

The controversy erupted after the Academy of Motion
Picture Arts and Sciences announced this year's Oscar
nominations earlier this month, revealing a
list that included no non-white acting nominees for the second year in a row.
Now you can add the film American Hustle — which won a Golden Globe for Best
Picture and picked up 10 Academy Award
nominations this week — to the
list, especially if you want to explain how really great salespeople find leads, draw customers, and make deals.
While «Schindler's
List» won 7 Academy Awards (including Best
Picture, Best Director and Best -LCB- adapted -RCB- screenplay), and 11 Academy Award
Nominations (including Best Actor - Liam Neeson), it is a movie that left this reviewer a little uneasy.
But no Oscar predictor has the film on the
list for Best
Picture even though many believe Sully could come in with a few
nominations because of the Eastwood - Hanks Academy connection.
Oscar Potential: Best
Picture — always a potential, with many believing that The Dark Knight was # 6 on the Academy's last 5 - film
nomination list.
Only once in DGA / Oscar history did only two directors from the DGA's
list get Oscar
nominations and of course, the one who won the DGA also won the Directing Oscar and Best
Picture, Robert Wise and The Sound of Music.

Don't tell me about all the advances the Academy has made, the fact that its director branch put crazy ass anti-semitic sexist abusive Mel Gibson back on the director's short
list last year and gave his clunky bloody obvious war movie a best
picture nomination just proves how many assholes are still lurking among the voters ready to backlash against women and people of color.
Sifting through the
list above must be daunting for Academy voters, but it's generally agreed that Affleck, Bigelow, and Spielberg's respective films are frontrunners for Best
Picture, and therefore safe bets for Best Director
nominations.

list that was rounded out with Theodore Melfi's NASA biopic Hidden Figures, Denzel Washington's August Wilson adaptation Fences, and David Mackenzie's bank - robber thriller Hell or High Water.
However, all of the NYFCC's Best
Pictures since 2007 have at least received a
nomination for Best
Picture at the Oscars and the LAFCA's selections have received nods for the past 10 years, so, if history is any indication, the odds are strong that «Boyhood» will be on the
list when Best
Picture Oscar nominees are announced.
There were nine Best
Picture nominations this year — a category that can be anywhere from five to ten — with a diverse
list that included a Western (Hell Or High Water), a war movie (Hacksaw Ridge), a sci - fi (Arrival).
Generally only one or two films on the PGA

Picture list by Sony Classics» Call Me By Your Name; Focus Features» Darkest Hour, home to Best Actor frontrunner Gary Oldman, nommed today; Warner Bros» Dunkirk, with Christopher Nolan's stunning war movie scoring eight noms; Focus» Phantom Thread, with Daniel Day - Lewis back in the Actor race; Fox's The Post, along with it the 21st
nomination for Meryl Streep (though not for director Stephen Spielberg); and Searchlight's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, probably the other frontrunner coming into today noms and which had seven
nominations, with Martin McDonagh nominated for writing but not directing, and the film's big three — Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell — all nominated.
Like many others, his
list has «The Curious Case of Benjamin Button» ruling the roost with eight
nominations, with «Defiance,» «Doubt,» «Milk» and «Miracle at St Anna» rounding out the Best
Picture list.
I reviewed the film in 2009 (read the feature review here) and it since placed on scores of Top Ten
lists and critics awards and received Academy Awards
nominations for Best
Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
This is the first Oscar for Pixar since Toy Story 3 delivered one of the studio's most successful awards seasons, with the film not only topping many animation
lists, but also placing in many «best films of the year»
lists, culminating in the capturing of a Best
Picture nomination at the Oscars.
After it was excluded from a Best
Picture nomination, the Academy sensed a public backlash, so they expanded their Best
Picture list to ten
nomination slots and ten nominees for Best
Picture.
