Once your child's medical condition is stable, we
often change to oral antibiotics, which are recommended in the majority of pediatric
pneumonia cases.
Some
cases do progress, though, and they may cause debilitating and almost untreatable soft - tissue infections like cellulitis and folliculitis,
pneumonia, and
often - fatal heart infections, or endocarditis.
Vet's will
often prescribe a cough suppressant and if the disease is chronic or has resulted in a
case of canine
pneumonia, your pet may be kept in a veterinary hospital for intravenous antibiotics, fluids and possibly oxygen therapy.
In more severe
cases, where the dog is running a fever, is not eating or is showing signs of
pneumonia, antibiotics are
often used.
