It's also versatile, with their bamboo inserts it can be used like an all -
in - two, or you can stuff an insert into the envelop opening and use it as a
pocket, with the added bonus of the insert agitating itself out
in the
wash, so no unstuffing dirty newborn
diapers!
If you're very strapped and can't afford many
diapers, and you are OK with
washing them daily, you can get away with a dozen
diapers, whether they're
pockets, all -
in - ones, all -
in - twos, prefolds or flats (though prefolds and flats will also require a purchase of at least 4 covers).
If you're used to throwing an all -
in - one into the washer or shaking a
pocket diaper into the
wash without having to touch dirty inserts, the Best Bottom
diapers will take some time to get used to.
They
wash totally clean and free of odors... unlike every polyester
pocket and all
in one
diaper we've used.
Once that first
wash is done, I check to be sure the inserts have come out of any
pocket diapers, and if there are any Velcro or Aplix closure
diapers in the load, I double check that the fold - back tabs are still secured so I don't end up with a big chain of
diapers stuck together.
I love that the wide
pocket opening means that I won't have to unstuff the
diaper, the inserts will come out
in the
wash!

If flat
diapers and prefolds aren't your thing, consider
pocket diapers, fitteds, and all
in one
diapers made with all natural fibers
in their absorbent layers, and think about a
diaper that will be easier to
wash — say an all
in one
diaper that has a soaker pad that is only attached at one end, or one that has removable layers.
Your natural fibre products should be
washed on hot and dried
in the dryer three to four times before they are
washed with other
diapering items that contain fleece (
pockets and AIOs).

This is an important feature for
pocket diapers that may spend up to 3 days
in a wet or dry cloth
diaper pail before making their way into the
washing machine.
Even if you cloth
diaper, modern
diapers such as
pockets and all -
in - ones may not be ideal without electricity to
wash them.
Some people love All Free & Clear for
diapers, but I found that they left a serious residue on my
pocket diapers, rendering them mostly water - resistant after only a few
washes (I think it's the «stain - guard» stuff
in the AFC).
When throwing your dirty
diapers in your
diaper pail (or before
washing), always unfold your
diapers, remove the inserts from
pocket diapers and don't forget to fold down the aplix (Velcro) onto the laundry tabs so they don't catch onto your other
diapers.
If you have
pockets or all -
in - two
diapers with natural inserts, you should separate them and
wash them separately for at least 1
wash.
But, unlike with a
pocket diaper, there is NO NEED TO UNSTUFF!The absorbent inserts come right out
in the
wash!
Unlike other
pocket diapers I've tried
in the past, I love the ease of stuffing
in the envelope covers and the fact that the insert comes out easily
in the
wash.
