Occupying new galleries in the fresh extension of the Tate St Ives complex — a # 20 million, four - year project that has seen the space for showing art at the gallery double — this is the first major show of British artist Patrick Heron (1920 - 99) for two decades.

London's Cell Project Space is following up its renovations with a new group show, titled Reboot Horizon, running from November 13 to January 11.

The show is impressive because both halves of the project flourish in their respective spaces.

Through audio interviews with founders and key staff, a reading room of magazines and publications, documentation, ephemera and narrative descriptions, the exhibition will tell the story of pioneering spaces — like P.S. 1, Artists Space, Fashion Moda, Taller Boricua, ABC No Rio, The Kitchen, Franklin Furnace, Exit Art, 112 Greene Street, White Columns, Creative Time, Electronic Arts Intermix, Anthology Film Archives, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Just Above Midtown, and many more — as well as document a new generation of alternative projects such as Cinders, Live With Animals, Fake Estate, Apartment Show, Pocket Utopia, Cleopatra's, English Kills Art Gallery, Triple Candie, Esopus Space, and others.

But I don't think Tibbits, in invoking those shows, is really complaining that the MFAH and the Menil don't show enough contemporary Texas artists, although his screed prompted Christopher Sperandio, in a Facebook post, to call for project spaces at Houston museums and Glasstire's Lucia Simek to reminisce about the DMA's recent Available Space group show of work by contemporary North Texas artists.
