Psyllium fiber comes from the
seed of the
husk of plantago ovata,
also called plantago isphagula, and is mainly present in bulk laxatives but now is
also used as a non-systemic cholesterol - lowering agent.

Christina, i don't have
psyllium husks either, so i was googling around for substitutions, and apparently you can use an equal amount of ground flax or chia
seeds, but you will
also need to increase the amount of warm water you add.

also baked a loaf of this low - carb bread (my favorite) but replaced half of the flax
seeds with
psyllium husks and added an additional 1/4 cup of water.
