MCASD's Gallery Guides will give free public tours of the Tara Donovan exhibition at 6 pm on the following third Thursdays: Thursday, November 19, 5 - 7 pm Thursday, December 17, 5 - 7 pm Thursday, January 21, 5 - 7 pm Thursday, February 18, 5 - 7 pm Tara Donovan Since 1998, Tara Donovan (b. 1969, New York, NY) has been the subject of 25 solo exhibitions nationwide, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (2007); the Saint Louis Art Museum (2006); the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (2004); UCLA Hammer Museum (2004); Museum of Contemporary Art, Cleveland (2003 - 2004); and Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. (1999 - 2000).

Graham's work can be found in a number of public collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.Solo exhibitions include a retrospective (2004 - 05) that toured venues including MoCA, Los Angeles, ICA, Philadelphia and Vancouver Art Gallery; BaWAG Foundation, Vienna (2007); Sprengel Museum, Hanover (2006); Bergen Kunsthalle (2006); Musee d'art Contemporain de Montreal (2006); K21, Dusseldorf (2003); Whitechapel Art Gallery, London (2001); Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2001).

Public tours are available to book online, and as a bonus they go through the former studio of sculptor Daniel Chester French, now a New York Studio School gallery space.

Friday's «public» receptions and extended hours proved less busy — but Saturday's eager gallery goers and many tour groups made up for any shortfalls.

Local DMA assistant curator, Gabe Ritter and the exhibit organizer, Eva Rispini who is the Associate Curator, Department of Photography, at MoMA, conducted an enlightening gallery tour, providing insight into the production of the images, the works» themes and an understanding of the artist, who despite nearly 40 years of projecting images of herself into the public arena, remains (intentionally) somewhat of an enigma.

Prior to this, she was Director of Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery for 12 years, where she developed an ambitious programme with a particular focus on the fusion of concept with material and process through outreach projects, public commissions and national touring exhibitions.
