For the top I used Minwax wood conditioner and Minwax Dark Walnut stain and then some Annie Sloan
Pure White chalk paint for the bottom.
I wound up using a General Finishes Glossy top coat and I added a tad of
pure white chalk paint to it and it's doing great!!!
I knew I wanted to tone down the contrast between the slate and aubusson blue, so I chose to tint some clear wax with Annie's new
Pure White chalk paint.

First I
painted it French Linen but it looked drab on this piece, so I
painted over that with
Pure White (
Chalk Paint by Annie Sloan).
Next, I
painted the pallet using Annie Sloan
Chalk Paint
Pure White from Nada & Co. in Royal Oak, Michigan.
I added some embellishments from Efex to the new doors and
painted the entire piece in
pure white Annie Sloan
Chalk Paint topped with black wax.

Jan, I have tried many products to use over
chalk paint, several waxes then I switched to polycrylic top coats and have tried several, the best I've ever used is Polyvine Decorator's Varnish Dead Flat Finish — it DOES NOT yellow, I just used over two big pieces of furniture

We took the backing off the mirror, took the mirror out and put it away for safe keeping (ya know, in case I want to use it for some random diy project in the future) and then I
painted the frame with a couple coats of
Chalk Paint ® in

chalk paint on this dresser so I went with a reliable brand - Annie Sloan (
Pure White).
In this picture, you see I had Americana Decor
chalk paint, but in step 5, I decided to change the
paint color to Annie Sloan's
Pure White.

chalk paint to
paint in the letters, then I used a sanding block to distress the sign.
I
painted the base in Annie Sloan
Chalk Paint in
Pure White, lightly distressed it, and then gave it a coat of clear wax.

First I pulled the mirror out and
painted the wood frame with Annie Sloan

NOTE: Last winter, I removed the doors and repainted the upper cabinets because I found the Old
White to be too cream - colored (you may want to try Annie Sloan's

Pure White for a
whiter and brighter color.
