Good news is; RIM has decided to combine best features of Blackberry OS and
QNX in their BBX handsets.
Yesterday, RIM's EVP of Mobile Computing, David Smith, pointed out to us that RIM is already licensing
QNX in this space.
So glad I'm finally going to move on from a company that really has no idea where it is headed, even with
QNX in its back pocket.

Ford's third - generation touchscreen infotainment system, Sync 3, will be making the leap from the Microsoft - based technology in use since 2007 to Blackberry's
QNX in - car operating system, the automaker announced December 11.

Chenalso highlighted BlackBerry's
QNX division, which works on technology that will fuse with automobiles, and said new technology from the division will be showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show
in Las Vegas next month.
For a while, the work of developing
QNX for RIM's products was done
in isolation.
As RIM progressed, it became clear that porting would be problematic
in the long run, and that many features would indeed have to be built from the ground up
in QNX.
As of last year, Blackberry was estimating that around 30 million cars on the road used
QNX, with 11 million of them sold just
in 2012.
In addition, rumours are floating about that Ford is planning on ditching its partnership with Microsoft for its Sync system and changing over to the superior
QNX.
There have been positive reaction and excitement around well - placed rumours that the PlayBook will support Android apps, and the company's
QNX operating system
in the PlayBook and new BlackBerry products has also burnished its rep.
QNX, which made more than 60 % of the core software inside the world's car infotainment systems
in 2011, has partnered with The Weather Network to send location - based weather data to drivers, and the intelligent dashboard system
in many of Nissan's 2013 models, for instance, will feed drivers real - time local fuel prices, flight - status information, and points of interest supplied by Google.

in - car infotainment systems.
The Canadian software firm's
QNX division showed off its latest technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES)
in Las Vegas on Wednesday, which demonstrated how cars can communicate with each other as well as traffic lights to improve traffic flow and prevent collisions.

in on
QNX, the Ottawa - based software company owned by smartphone maker BlackBerry, to see what was new and also to see what they thought of the big news of Google's Open Automotive Alliance, which will be pushing Android onto cars starting this year.
I'm going to be meeting with BlackBerry and talking about the investments they've made
in QNX, an additional $ 100 million, to really look at how they can adapt their software and security technologies with Ford and other vehicles and really help drive the autonomous vehicle initiatives
in Canada.
Apple is reportedly prioritizing working on the software for a driverless car, rather than building one from scratch, as is indicated by its hiring of Dan Dodge, the founder of

Looking forward, Chen hinted at a new Internet of things product announcement at CES 2016

In October, BlackBerry expanded its relationship with Ford Motor Company to include a dedicated team working with Ford on expanding the use of BlackBerry's
QNX Neutrino Operating System, Certicom security technology,
QNX hypervisor, and
QNX audio processing software.
The company's
QNX unit, renamed BlackBerry
QNX, currently employs around 400 engineers, some three - quarters of them at its facility
in Kanata on the outskirts of Ottawa.
QNX was acquired by BlackBerry
in 2010 and Ford chose it to replace Microsoft for its Sync infotainment platform.

QNX, which develops software that is used
in millions of vehicles today.
A likely option,
QNX's Gryc says, is to restrict nonessential services available to the driver while the car is
in motion, and freeing them for use when the vehicle is parked.
To prove the
QNX platform isn't just for quarter - million dollar cars, the
QNX Car application platform is also being shown at CES
in a Jeep Wrangler.
We've already seen
QNX's idea of future digital clusters
in the 2015 Audi TT, where the area directly
in front of the driver is used as the primary display, rather than an auxiliary screen
in the center of the dash.
The Sync 3 system runs on Blackberry's
QNX software whereas the old MyFord touch, which debuted
in 2010, runs on Microsoft - sourced software.
UK carmaker Jaguar Land Rover will use BlackBerry's
QNX and Certicom technology
in its next - generation vehicles.
QNX, a division of BlackBerry producer Research
in Motion Ltd., provides the software operating system for MyLink.
QNX is a longtime GM partner
in telematics.
Gartner also assumes that no other tablet competitors will really matter
in the coming years, aside from RIM's
QNX - powered BlackBerry PlayBook.

After seeing what
QNX was about yesterday, there seemed little reason for Research
In Motion to not adopt the operating system full time for their smartphones; the OS has a mind for stability, lower power consumption, efficiency, a wide variety of developer platform support, as well as rich multimedia capabilities ranging from Flash to 3D rendering.
The software is obviously less good but it's already improved quite a bit since it was released and since RIM is commited to
QNX for future models and product lines like phones the updates should keep rolling
in.
The link does say that it is for 7.0 or Higher devices...
QNX though is still
in it's infancy as like Playbook 2.0 update coming shortly... Will
QNX superphones be running 8.0 or run 2.3 for
QNX?
The overall
QNX UI is very well done, and IMO the most intuitive interface I've worked with
in a long time, on any device.
In effect, RIM is trying to sell you smartphones that won't be eligible for all the latest and greatest
QNX features its hoping will revive its mobile business.
It's because RIM will be abandoning its current BlackBerry OS
in favor of
QNX, the operating system that currently powers the PlayBook.

With these factors
in mind, within a couple of years, we expect Apple to maintain the lion's share of the growing tablet market — at least somewhere
in the 50 % to 60 % range — with Android next, and the rest splitting the difference, including RIM's PlayBook /
QNX platform, Palm's WebOS, and whatever Microsoft eventually brings to the game.
With RIM now stretching its smartest people between pushing out the PlayBook with it's
QNX - based OS and working on getting BlackBerry 6.1 out the door for the next generation of phone hardware, we suspect early 2011 to be
in a bit of a phone drought.
Now they have to wait to bring the
QNX devices because they have the new BB7 devices
in productions and need to sell those and will sell those like hot cake.

These devices will have 6.1 loaded on them which is another significant step but the playbook has
QNX which blows android and apple out of the water,
in my opinion.
