from rejecting the established norms of the series, culminating in him fighting alongside Snake while using a sword.
Future titles like Guns of the Patriots sought to remedy player reaction to
Raiden by making him more active, but the series never shied away
from depicting this new life as tragic.

Raiden, a former child soldier Solidus had secretly been training, is sent on what he believes to be a virtuous mission: stopping Solid Snake, a former agent gone rogue,
from stealing a Metal Gear.
I think there's a possibility
Raiden has two personalities here: the one we know
from MGS2 and MGS4, and his «dark side».
The character
Raiden first appeared in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
from 2001 as the player assumed his character after the initial level playing as Solid Snake.
Raiden as a character is dramatically different
from what we have seen in the other games.
The supporting cast is basically just a bunch of glorified extras with maybe a dozen lines of dialogue split amongst them, while Aksel Hennie's villain is so completely absurd that someone would have killed him long before his dispute with
Raiden... and likely
from within his own court.
The latest slice - em - up game
from Platinum Games featuring the further adventures of the sword - swinging cyborg,
Raiden.
Raiden in Revengeance seems like an entirely different character
from the one that has been established so far.
This theory can be backed up by the fact that
Raiden's voice in the trailer seemed to be very different at the beginning (much like MGS4's voice)
from the one at the end (maniacal).
Underlining this is Blade Mode, a vicious conclusion to combat encounters that pulls the game camera in closely, slows down time and lets
Raiden slice apart enemies freely
from any angle.
