book reviewed in places an agent might have heard of, I start to worry
about whether a traditional publisher can

People get
really fixated on
reviews because the newsletters like Bookbub depend on them entirely for indication of a
book's worthiness, but I agree with you that most readers don't care all that much
about them.
In that way I
really believe for many bloggers it isn't
about being anti self - publishing but simply
about managing time so that they can
review books (including self - published
books).
I think educating the public
about what indie publishing
really means and the rise of
review blogs that cater to them and carry as much weight as places like Dear Author and Smart Bitches Trashy
Books will go a lot further toward informing the public what qualifies as a good read.
In today's Publetariat Dispatch, author Alan Baxter talks
about the injustice of
reviews that aren't
really about the
book in question at all.
But I'm
really on the fence
about it when I think the reviewer did read the
book and did give an honest
review.
Why does no one know
about a
really good
book that even has great
reviews?
But what
really got me going was a post by Chuck Gannon on Facebook yesterday
about a negative
review he'd received for his
book, Fire with Fire.
What if we see more «zombie» and «bot» five - star
reviews flying around confusing readers
about what
book REALLY has a good ranking and what
book just has an advertising team pumping it up to look good?
Book Blog tours are
really about getting a work in front of new readers by having someone else (
Book Bloggers)
review and post tidbits (interviews / excerpts / bonus content)
about the novel.
I buy five or more
books per week, usually when I see a
review, get a notice from a bookseller that a new one of my favorites is out, or follow a recommendation from a friend
about a
really good
book she's read.
Now if only People magazine would start
reviewing self - pubbed
books, we'd
really have something to write
about.
I
really liked the step by step approach the authors shared
about how they started their own successful
book review program, including samples of emails you can model, what resources to use and exactly how to set up your program.
It's now up there next to
books that have hundreds of five star
reviews, and some
really well - known names like Dan Norris, Gary Vaynerchuck, Peter Thiel, Chris Guillebeau, and Jon Lee Dumas, I had initially hired someone to handle the marketing for me because I didn't want to to have to think
about it, but that whole thing ended up blowing up in my face and I had to learn to do it all myself.
When I worked for publishing houses in New York City there was a debate
about book review coverage: Does seeking

After a cursory
review of the company's financials I noted that it was trading at
about 40 % of
book value which
really piqued my interest; I'm a sucker for companies trading below
book value!
It was hard not to think of The Crew as a Burnout game at times, it played like one and it controlled like one, and in my
book that is a huge compliment and it got me
really excited thinking
about a game like Burnout Paradise, because that is the easiest way to describe The Crew, besides from the deep customization options (which I will address later on in this
review) and the story, yes the game has a story.
Frankly, this is already a
really long
review / guide and I could write a
book about the series, seriously.
This isn't
really a
review of Art Rethought; the Social Practices of Art, by Nicholas Wolterstorff, a
book by a philosopher
about art, with no illustrations.
David Salle has a long piece in the current NY
Review of
Books on the Laura Owens show now at the Whitney — a
really intelligent, very well written, «professional» piece that means just
about nothing to me.
