As mentioned in yesterday's quick summary, the Trump
Administration's full budget request is seeking historically large cutbacks in federal science and technology programs, particularly to basic and applied
research (see table
at right; updated on June 6 with additional agency data).
Democratic senators expressed alarm about reports that the incoming
administration intends to propose deep spending cuts
at DOE that would curtail
research in nuclear physics, advanced scientific computing, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
