Rewards and Starwood's Starpoints and,
as a follow up to those articles, I'm now taking a look at the best ways to earn the four transferable loyalty currencies and hopefully giving you some idea of what you can do to earn more
points and to boost your
balances quickly and / or frequently.
On of my larger
points balances is in the form of Chase Ultimate
Rewards (thanks to my Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card) and, as those transfer 1:1 to the World of Hyatt rewards program, I'm usually not short of Hyatt

Buying products and services with your card, in most cases, will count
as a purchase; however, the following types of transactions won't count and won't earn
Rewards points:
balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash - like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.
As I prefer to use my Chase Ultimate
Rewards points for Hyatt redemptions Amex Membership
Rewards are where I look when I ned to top up my Avios
balance for short - haul awards within Europe or within the US.
Second, it also earns Ultimate

It's interesting that SPG lifetime elites are being told that their Starpoint
balances will no longer expire
as it
points to the fact that lifetime status will be eventually incorporated into the new combined Marriott
rewards / SPG loyalty program (why introduce a benefit that you're going to wipe out within the next 2 years?)
I get the overwhelming majority of my Hyatt
points via transfers from Chase Ultimate
Rewards and,
as I much prefer to hold transferable currency
balances than
balances with individual loyalty programs, I rarely large number of
points in my Hyatt account.

But beyond that strategy, it's a lot easier to rack up high
balances of
points with Chase Ultimate
Rewards and American Express
as they offer many more options than Citi.
On the other hand, if you're diligently keeping your flexible
balances as low
as possible, and especially if you're planning trips involving high - value Hyatt redemptions (or if you have a Southwest companion pass), you may well find that buying up the Avios you need to complete a redemption makes sense compared to transferring the
points in from Chase Ultimate
Rewards.
Credit card
rewards that pay you
points for your spending are now seen
as a cost of doing business for credit card companies necessary for gaining the business of people who tend to put most of their purchases on credit cards and tend to pay off their
balance each month.
Additionally, cards that offer
rewards, such
as cash back or
points, will probably not allow you to earn
rewards on your transferred
balance.
