rice syrup, coconut sugar and maple syrup for example, are all good alternatives.
I've
worked with brown
rice flour before and haven't had as amazing results as I did
here.

work here.
Since it is a relatively small amount of flour a lot of flours could
work here — quinoa, buckwheat, a GF

rice flour would
work here!
Roasted squash pairs beautifully with warming indian spices, lentils provide some heft and texture, and I love to serve it with a little brown
rice, but whatever grain or bread will
work here.

For the BBQ sauce, I used organic tomato sauce, apple cider vinegar (red wine or
rice vinegar can
work here), Pyure Organic Stevia Blend for added sweetness without the sugar (can sub one quarter cup honey, maple syrup, brown sugar, or cane sugar), molasses for richer flavor (can sub for dark brown sugar or maple syrup), Worcestershire sauce for savory «tang» (can sub one tablespoon apple cider vinegar plus half a tablespoon of coconut aminos), liquid smoke (can sub smoked paprika or chipotle seasoning), and dried spices (mustard powder, onion powder, garlic powder, and cayenne).
Just wanted to share that BananaWave, the newest plant milk (like almond or
rice milk but made with bananas instead) also
works here, and also allows you to skip the added sweeteners (to the commentor who was worried about sweetening / calories) as it is pretty sweet by itself.
We don't have crockpots over
here but I figure they're probably
working in the same way my mum used to prepare
rice pudding for us as children [low and slow].
Over half of the estate has been retained as
working rice fields, so the essence of why we built
