As already mentioned, both the Dead Island and the Dead Island
Riptide stories are nothing to write home about, and this impacts the whole experience negatively.

The only rock solid parts of Dead Island:
Riptide are the co-op experience and the weapon modification system; but not much else can be said about either of these elements except «I can put flames on a shovel and experience the shitty
story with a friend».
There's a massive amount of gameplay on offer across both Dead Island and Dead Island
Riptide, with plenty of side quests to complete alongside the main
stories.

Although the stretch of ocean in Mazunte has
riptides that make it dangerous for swimming (Francisco Goldman's book Say Her Name: A Novel tells the tragic
story of the loss of his wife in these waters), the sparkling blue waters of San Agustinillo are perfect for body boarding.

Riptide is exceptionally thin and told in a curiously broken, meandering fashion.

Riptide looked pretty damn good on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but now they look even better.

Riptide is really quite subpar and you wonder why more effort wasn't put into the
story telling.

story, take us to a new location, the big city perhaps, or the country side and develop the
story as to how the outbreak occurred and all those sort of questions, introduce new characters, weapons and enemies.
Although Dead Country
Riptide wouldn't have been a great title, I think that the scale of the locations in gameplay combined with the hundreds of overall quests to complete make this a really decent ride despite nothing about its
story being any bit memorable.
The
story is extended in an expansion,
Riptide, and 4 player co-op is available across both games.
