the SAG Nominating Committee saluting the actors they were expected to salute and honoring the films they were supposed to honor.

Slumdog Millionaire and Return of the King (no other acting noms) are probably the least
nominated film to film to win ensemble there but they were winning everything anyway and their winning the
SAG was a good bet that those films would go on to sweep the Oscars, having the actors on board.
Surprise taps in the female acting category included Marion Cotillard for «Two Days, One Night» over Jennifer Aniston, who was the only person this year
nominated for a
SAG Award, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award, but didn't move onto the Oscars.

SAG nom comm obviously saw La La Land and liked Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling enough to
nominate them and by most accounts the cast / ensemble nomination at
SAG is a default Best Picture nomination.

Now, that is highly unlikely since, to date, no one has ever won and individual
SAG without being
nominated for the Oscar as well.
Even though Zeta - Jones grabbed the
SAG, her biggest competition wasn't even
nominated thanks to a marketing mistake that reminds us how utterly, ridiculously political awards like this are.

nominating her for nine individual awards and giving her three trophies.
Yes, Lawrence was the film's only actor
nominated individually, but the winners are voted on by the 100,000 active
SAG - AFTRA members, while the noms come from a randomly selected panel of 2,300.
The Big Sick and Mudbound are the other two
SAG ensemble
nominated films but neither made the cut with the editors.
No
SAG Cast or even an individual nomination (not even at BAFTA, who could have
nominated Mark Rylance but
nominated Hugh Grant for Paddington 2 instead).
The romantic dramedy, based on a true story of his life, has gotten some of the best reviews of any movie this year and has been
nominated for the Best Picture Critics Choice Award and Best Ensemble
SAG Award.
But it can't win
SAG ensemble, obviously, because it isn't
nominated.
But if it goes Dunkirk wins PGA and DGA but Battle of the Sexes or Darkest Hour or The Post wins
SAG because Dunkirk isn't
nominated — well, then you're probably looking at some kind of split.
BAFTA's Leading Actress category mirrored the upcoming
SAG Awards exactly,
nominating Amy Adams in «Arrival,» Emily Blunt in «The Girl on the Train,» Natalie Portman in «Jackie,» Emma Stone in «La La Land,» and Meryl Streep in «Florence Foster Jenkins.»
Two - time Oscar winner Tom Hanks is
nominated for
SAG and Globe awards for his role in «Captain Phillips.»
It's hard to think of an actor as respected and awarded as Denzel Washington could still be hitting firsts, but this win marked the first
SAG Award that the legendary actor has won (he's still never been
nominated for a BAFTA).

SAG / AFTRA is now roughly 150,000 members, the
nominating committee is just a couple thousand.
I'm not sure whether to stick with Morton in my predictions now since she didn't show up at the Globes or
SAG, even in ensemble at the latter awards, but I think Woody could pull her in since with her other nominations, she's always been
nominated with a co-star.
But the ensemble of the political comedy had yet to claim the top prize at the
SAG Awards, despite having been
nominated four previous times.
