SNP members, the independence movement and our leader Nicola Sturgeon:
As MPs meet for swearing in this week we have seen the first evidence of this, with an influx of
SNP Members and far fewer Liberal Democrats.
It is likely that after the General Election there will be more
SNP members of parliament sitting in Westminster whose concern will be Scotland and not what is best for England.
She has the ability to make
SNP members believe that they think exactly what she thinks.
She was comforted by
SNP members after her speech during a Commons debate on violence against women.
And to the disgust of many angry
SNP members, she decided to give the Labour MP the benefit of the doubt.
But the averages disguise some significant differences — not least that 44 % of Tory members are aged 65 or over, compared with 29 per cent of Labour members, 30 % of Lib Dem members and 32 % of
SNP members.
On the economy, 11 % of Tory members agree that austerity has gone too far, compared with 98 % of Labour members, 93 % of
SNP members, and 75 % of Lib Dem members.
For instance, 71 % are men, compared with 53 % of Labour members, 57 % of
SNP members and 63 % of Lib Dems.
Just over half of Tory party members support the death penalty compared to under ten per cent of Labour and Lib Dem members and a fifth of
SNP members.
As far as
SNP members were concerned, failure to win independence was merely a stumble on a long road.

If you go back to the early sixties when Plaid and
SNP had three
Members of Parliament at the same time and a relatively similar population and electorate.
In the Scottish Parliament election, 2016,
SNP saw its constituency vote increase slightly (from 45.4 % to 46.5 %) and its regional vote decrease slightly (from 44.0 % to 41.7 %), leading to a decrease from 69 to 63 seats (out of 129) in the additional

Sturgeon joined the Scottish National Party (
SNP) in 1986, having already become a
member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, and quickly became their Youth Affairs Vice Convener and Publicity Vice Convener.
What's worth noting straight away is that, with a couple of exceptions (namely, that on the «objective measure» Labour supporters are more left wing than Greens and UKIP
members slightly more left - wing than Lib Dems), the relative ordering on all three measures is the same: from left to right, it runs Greens, Labour,
SNP, Lib Dem, UKIP, and Conservative.

In Scotland the Additional
Member System agreed for the Scottish Parliament will hand Labour seats to parties to its right — the Liberal Democrats,
SNP and even the Tories will benefit — and almost certainly lose Labour the majority it would have under the present system.
These new
members might well become Labour's cyber-left, comparable to the
SNP's infamous cyber-nats.
Far more devastating in his assessment was the
SNP's Angus MacNeil, the
member for the Western Isles.
Once the vote concerning independence began, however, unions overwhelmingly rejected the key tenant of the
SNP's platform, describing the idea as «economically damaging to union

The MSP told party

There is a solution, a relatively straightforward one, contained in this private

SNP's Angus MacNeil, a bill that I am proud to back.
The controversy over BBC coverage comes as a senior
SNP figure suggested the abuse aimed at JK Rowling was written by
members of the British intelligence agencies.

member asked about Trident and again the
SNP leader was on firm ground: «I choose childcare, health and education over new Trident weapons any day of the week.»
Both Nicola Sturgeon and the
SNP, however, still have to satisfy high expectations when it comes to day - to - day government, the first minister's personal pledge to close the attainment gap in the state school sector, and the obvious desire among many of her
members and supporters for another independence referendum.
This is no small achievement, given that the
SNP now has around 130,000
members - more than four times the number Salmond had to keep in line.
