They are, as I said,
neckbuds, though that isn't a word you're likely to hear Google utter.
But in some ways they're nicer than traditional
neckbuds.
On the other hand, Pixel Buds are
neckbuds, not truly wireless earbuds.
Neckbuds aren't cool, but having headphones sitting around your neck all the time is definitely convenient.
Today's tweet does reveal a $ 159 price point that, while in line with with similar
neckbuds, are the same price as Apple's AirPods, though technologically less impressive.
For several weeks now, we've heard of a similar product in development from two separate sources and can corroborate
this neckbuds form factor for headphones made by Google that feature an Assistant «action» button.
I'm still not sold on
neckbuds, but I was able to appreciate the classic look and feel of the premium over-ear version.
This actually replaces the benefit of
the neckbuds form factor that allows you to just lazily store them around your neck.
Alongside this model, Sony is launching two other in - ear
neckbuds that are not truly wireless.
The WI - SP600N have a more conventional
neckbud design with a rather large pill underneath the left bud.
Examples of this include Apple's AirPods and Samsung's Gear Icon X. On the other hand, there's the more tried and true «
neckbud» form factor which is what we get with the Pixel Buds.
Unlike most
neckbuds, Google has included a charging case with the Pixel Buds, and it... works.
The cord doubles as a way to wear the buds when you are not using them, per
the neckbuds style.
But in some ways they're nicer than traditional
neckbuds.
The cord that connects them is both shorter and more flexible than other
neckbud cords, and the fact that it's cloth makes it slightly more comfortable.
Neckbuds aren't cool, but having headphones sitting around your neck all the time is definitely convenient.
I just commit the fashion sin of owning
neckbuds.
As much as I hate
neckbuds as a design, I also found the Orosound Tilde to be very comfortable and easy to wear.
The WI - SP600N
neckbuds also offer noise cancellation to drown out the clanking of weights and machines at the gym, and they've got the same IPX4 splash - proof rating.
But if you're expecting the Pixel Buds to be as comfortable as your favorite set of
neckbuds, you'll be disappointed.
They're just good, comfortable all - day
neckbuds — so long as you find the sound quality acceptable.
But they're definitely better than what I experienced with the Gear IconX 2018 earbuds and are on par with larger «
neckbud» type headphones I've used in the past.
