card has long been a favorite amongst miles &
points collectors thanks to the value you can get out of the Starpoints that you
earn from spend

card.
But if I have to
earn 1

card, I would want it to be an
SPG point.

SPG point converts to THREE Marriott
points you are effectively
earning 3 Marriott
points on EVERY purchase you make
on your Starwood
card.
However, the Platinum
card comes with the valuable
point - earner of an automatic
SPG Program Gold Level Membership regardless of travel days, which
earns you 3

on SPG bookings.
Starpoints
earned on the
SPG credit
card are the single most valuable
points currency in the world.

Card Members in the U.S. can

Their
points are hard to come by since their credit
card earns one
point per dollar
on all non-
SPG spend, and even
on SPG hotels you don't always want to use the
card because they charge foreign transaction fees.

Aside from Ultimate Rewards
points earned on the Chase
cards mentioned above, in my opinion, Starwood Preferred Guest (
SPG) Starpoints are the next most valuable currency in the
points and miles game.
SPG points are primarily
earned from hotel stays and spend
on the personal and business co-branded American Express credit
cards.
And while the
card earns bonus category
points on restaurants, car rentals, and airlines, it's probably best to put your spend
on the
SPG to
earn more Marriott
points.
You could try
earning those
points with spend
on your
SPG credit
cards, but you could also try to go for the Chase Marriott business credit
card (not subject to 5/24) and
earn a quick 80,000 Marriott
points.
For example, let's assume you're able to jump
on the 25K offer for both the personal and the business
SPG card, that means you'll have close to 58K
SPG points after meeting the minimum spends and
earning the bonuses.
So, spending $ 90K
on an
SPG card can
earn you 270K Marriott
points.
While the
card earns an impressive five
points per dollar spent at
SPG hotels, you don't get any bonus
points on other purchases.
ANA is a transfer partner with both Amex Membership Rewards and Amex
SPG, so you might
earn more by collecting
points on those
cards and then moving them to ANA.
It's very much worth noting that general spend
on both the
SPG Amex and the Chase Marriott
cards earn 1
point per dollar.
Since the Amex
SPG card has no bonus -
earning categories outside of spending
on SPG and Marriott hotels, everyday purchases
earn just 1
point per dollar.
