teacher shortages are especially acute in physics, and the study points the way for institutions seeking to increase the number of
STEM graduates prepared to teach.
There is an emphasis on
teachers in
STEM subjects, such as maths and physics, as these areas are facing the greatest
shortages.
• When schools lack expert
teachers because of
shortages stemming from geographic limitations or attrition, for example; • When expert
teachers must serve a wide range of student needs in a single classroom by personalizing learning for each student; • And when expert
teachers much teach more than academic content.
However, with a recognised
shortage of qualified
STEM teachers in Australia, schools are also being encouraged to make links with experts from the community.

STEM subjects.
Yet more jobs than ever will require post-secondary education and training, and job growth is high in
STEM subjects, for which schools face some of the greatest
teacher shortages.
