This little
SUV feels grounded and capable on every bend.

Then you have ones that
feel that they must take a more radical measures and then you have homes burned to the
ground and
SUVs vandalized.
While it does
feel like a larger vehicle, and parking assist aside, some downtown parkades may
feel a tad cramped, you also sit closer to the
ground than some of the
SUVs in this class.
The
ground clearance is very high for that
SUV feel while the spare wheel will be mounted on the rear tail gate.
Fans of the
SUV experience will be happy to note that the driving position (172 mm
ground clearance)
feels more commanding than the Creta and the Tucson
feels taller, wider and more imposing.
The BMW is so good that when you drive it, you simply forget it is a car with a high
ground clearance, it simply doesn't
feel like an
SUV with its immaculate driving manners.
I think the «professionals» that do the test drives are so diluted with the massive range of cars trucks
SUV's etc that they drive they loose the ability to fine tune what matters to the specific group of people into this type of car... Also there is a lot of room in the front seat - seems to have endless adjustment to it - I am a huge guy 6» 3 and 250 pounds and just to
feel like the Santa fe I have to have the seat upwards, I will slowly adjust this back as I get used to the car... Also no one wants to discuss the arguments about the 19 inch wheels adding a little to the
ground clearance - an engineer showed me this huge equation that in the end said it added 1.45 inches... who knows... But I am impressed with the power, I thought it was slightly bigger and more powerful that the CX - 5 and handled just as good maybe better off regular roads....
Sure, you'll
feel the dips and bumps in a
SUV, but not the way you might in a four - door hatchback that's just a few inches off the
ground.
After a Saturn and Eclipse in the 90s and
SUVs and trucks over the last few years, I was unsure about moving back lower to the
ground (still have our Titan, but will use it considerably less) and am delighted with the sporty
feel of my new Altima.
The
ground clearance does give you the ride height of a small
SUV, but the suspension does a great job of maintaining its smooth, connected - to - the - road
feel even when driving down bumpy roads.
The high
ground clearance of 209 mm on the Nexon also gives it a more
SUV feel than that of the Vitara Brezza at 198 mm.
The only problem is they aren't often a good middle
ground and tend to
feel very
SUV - like in their ride and handling.
With Mahindra calling it an
SUV, the 170 mm
ground clearance
feels inadequate.
