Taken this way, good
Sabbaths make good Christians by regularly reminding us of God's creative, liberating and redeeming presence, not only in words but also through a practice we do together in response to that presence.
They reminded me that I was always quoting the Puritan phrase «Good
sabbaths make good Christians.»
David, just googled Buddha's raft again, I'd forgotten the clue... It also makes me think of Jesus» saying:
the sabbath made for man and not the other way around.

made sabbath?

God could have
made the world instantly, but chose to
make it in 6 days to set up the calender week and the
sabbath rest pattern for the human race.
Yet, he does mention stuff like «
make no graven images, keep the
sabbath, etc..
When one discovers that NOT «remembering the
sabbath» doesn't
make them a bad person, yet it is treated with the same severity as killing people according to god, then why would a Christian have any reservations towards letting people suffer and die?

In fact, the «WORK» of God «in the all - exceeding greatness of his Power» is
made manifest not only in the Resurrection of Christ from the dead, but also in the BURIAL of Jesus in the WORK of his faithful followers ON «THAT DAY BECAUSE IT WAS GREAT DAY
SABBATH» OF THE PASSOVER OF YAHWEH.

sabbath, not worshiping idol's and don't covet, but do those really

Matthew, perhaps aware of this difficulty, has omitted the word «already»,
making it possible for the words to mean, «while evening was coming», and both Luke and John have understandably omitted the whole of this time reference which reduced the available time to nil, and instead have ended their versions of the burial by saying that the
sabbath was then about to begin.

Most often, Sundays will
make the best
Sabbaths, and not only because our schedules are relatively open on that day.
If any charge were to be
made against the mainline church, it might be our laxity about the laws:
sabbath practice, tithing, prayer, worship, scripture study and fighting injustice.

Being respectful of the opinions of others - if not devout themselves - they waited until the
sabbath was over before they
made their visit.
