Revisions to
Saver Award levels in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award Chart have been made to ensure that flight rewards remain sustainable yet competitive.
Specifically, changes are affecting
Saver Award levels in the Singapore Airlines and SilkAir Award Chart.
Not exact matches
Regardless of what happens to the cash price of a United ticket, an
award ticket will cost one of two possible amounts: a «
saver»
level price
in miles, and a «standard» price.
Downgrade to the Chase MileagePlus Card (no Explorer
in the name) and you'll still have [ever so slightly] expanded domestic
saver level Economy
award availability, no fee, and the ability to switch back to the $ 95 annual fee Explorer card if your travel patterns change
in the future.
Saver, sometimes called «Low -
level»
awards are the lowest priced, and most limited
in selection of
award seats.
While this is a very poor use of points (you should always look for
saver level awards), the ability to book an
award seat at any time can be very useful

saver award inventory, especially

As an example of how one program works, United normally offers its
saver award seats
in the lower 48 states at 12,500 miles each way, but when a
saver award isn't available, those with a United co-branded credit card or United elite status typically can secure an
award seat at the 25,000 - mile standard
award level each direction, as long as seats are still available for sale with cash.
For local airline partners that are basically an extension of SAA — Airlink and SA Express — the previous MileageKeeper (like a
saver fare) and AnyDay
award pricing
levels remain
in effect.
Travelers can take comfort
in the fact that
award availability at the
saver level is increasing.
Keep
in mind that just because the
saver -
level award rate will be reduced, there is no guarantee that
awards will be available at that rate.
It appears that there are practically no changes
in the
award chart, although I can't for the life of me understand the need for two
Saver levels (like I said before, I couldn't care less about Anytime
awards).
Since Delta doesn't include
saver award seats
in when you're booking an
award at a
level higher than
saver, they charge you additively.
United
saver level award flights from the U.S. to the Caribbean are 35,000 miles roundtrip
in economy and 60,000
in first.

Getting to Europe with AA miles is challenging because AA
saver level award availability is abysmal
in general, but also because they largely let their oneWorld British Airways handle traffic to Europe.
Since this is a partner
award, it priced at the
saver level, which was 60,000 miles one - way and only $ 2.50
in fees!
To have a multi-segment
award price at the
Saver level, every segment
in that direction must have
Saver award space.

Availability is unfortunately always going to be an issue with
award seats — that's the constraint
in the system I try to preach flexibility above all else, so you usually can come by the
Saver Level seats needed to book the 35k Singapore miles on United flights.

Here's a predicament I find myself
in for a summer trip to Hawaii: Megan and I are going to Kauai and Maui, there is

level award space for only the outbound portion of our journey, we're both trying to get status with Alaska's Mileage Plan, and the tickets are ridiculously expensive (Scenario 1).
