The researchers note that
countries scoring high
in United Nations rankings of economic development tend to have
smaller executive cabinets — Iceland, number one
in development, has a cabinet of 12; the U.S.,
in 12th position, boasts a cabinet of 17 — although there are glaring exceptions: Australia, Canada and New Zealand score high on development and cabinet size, according to
Science News.
I recently returned to my home
country (a
small European
country known mostly as a holiday destination and not for its
science) after an excellent postdoc
in a top - tier U.S. institution, preceded by Ph.D. training
in the United Kingdom.
This elite and visible unanimity, however, belied the tangle of issues revealed earlier
in the day during the
smaller, nontelevised meeting where scholars from economics, political
science, law, and public policy examined the likely difficulties of devising immigration policies that help the economy without harming immigrants or people who are already

in science followed a similar pattern: New Jersey ranked No. 14

countries and nine
smaller systems abroad, such as several provinces
in Canada.
And second, even though only a
small portion of U.S. students hit the most advanced level on the
science test, the
country is large enough that it still produces 300,000 high - performing 15 - year olds
in the subject.
