During this workshop you will learn about important new research being conducted by Professor John Hattie and colleagues from Melbourne University Education Research Institute and
the Science of Learning Research Centre, about the science behind how we learn.
So, we put out a call through
our Science of Learning Research Centre network, through emails to school principals, on whether the teachers would be keen to come along to do an eight week intervention with us.
Professor Hattie is here in Sydney for
the Science of Learning Research Centre Big Day Out and the ACER Excellence in Professional Practice Conference, and has taken time out to chat to Teacher about his groundbreaking research and a new study on learning strategies.

The Science of Learning Research Centre — a nationwide collaboration between researchers in education, psychology and neuroscience dedicated to understanding learning — has a particular interest in investigating all aspects of teaching self - regulated learning.
Through short monthly meetings, rotated across the schools, members of the translation team function as research brokers to support each of the schools to engage with
science of learning research and researchers relevant to a school - identified problem of practice.
She is coordinator of Translational Outcomes within
the Science of Learning Research Centre.
To this end,
the Science of Learning Research Centre (SLRC)-- an Australian Research Council Special Research Initiative — was established in 2013 to investigate ways to promote, understand and measure learning across education, psychology and neuroscience.
Via
the Science of Learning Research Centre (SLRC), future research at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) seeks to bridge the gap between neuroscience, cognitive psychology and education.
He is also the Clinical Practice Coordinator in the Master of Teaching (Secondary) at the University of Melbourne, and working in
the Science of Learning Research Centre.
John Morris is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Queensland Brain Institute, University of Queensland, and a member of
the Science of Learning Research Centre.
Kelsey primarily works on research which brings neuroscientific methods to classroom studies with
the Science of Learning Research Centre.
Stephanie MacMahon is a PhD Candidate at The University of Queensland, a casual academic, and a Translation Officer with
the Science of Learning Research Centre.
He is a member of
the Science of Learning Research Centre in Australia with research interests in Piagetian programs and Cognitive Acceleration.
Over the next few months, Teacher will be publishing a series of articles exploring some of the latest research in the area of educational neuroscience, including the work of
the Science of Learning Research Centre (http://slrc.org.au/) and the practical implications for teaching and learning.
