While many folks are furiously updating and
upgrading their Oscar predictions as festival season gets underway, the thing is we're barely into the swing of the
awards season, and more crucially, most of the films have yet to be
seen.
As a newly minted Hyatt Diamond, I was eager to
see what all the fuss was about and booked a 5 - night Points + Cash reservation at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf, and applied one of my 2015 Suite
Upgrade Awards.
Secondly, this
sees a significant decrease in the number of Business Class seats available on the route and that's not going to be good for
upgrades or the already pathetic
award availability.
On the negative side the aircraft swap will
see the route go from having 53 premium cabin seats (16 First Class and 37 Business Class) to just 30 Business Class seats — not good news for
upgrades or
awards.
We've
seen the number of miles that we need to book
award travel increase significantly, we've
seen the number of miles we earn for travel plummet and we've
seen American Airlines introduce minimum spend criteria for elite status... but the number of miles you need to
upgrade your flights has, miraculously, remained unchanged.
My advice is, if this is a special stay, call SPG and simply enquire about the availability of Specialty Select
awards and, if available, have the agent read you the complete room description of the
upgraded room to
see if it is worth the extra points.
They don't really talk about the
upgrades on
awards either — that's only something I've
seen United mention.
