At the same time, efforts have been made to allay such fears, Blocktrail CTO Ruben De Vries commenting last year that
SegWit «is not very complicated if you already know the ins and outs of the Bitcoin protocol.»
On May 22, former BTCC executive and Blockstream chief strategy officer Samson Mow quoted Milne's summation of the discussions conducted
at the New York Consensus event to express his optimism toward the idea of activating
SegWit first and leading a two MB hard fork execution within a year.
At that point,
SegWit will likely have more of an impact, increasing the block size to support more transactions and paving the way for more advanced scaling solutions like Lightning Network.

Lombrozo gave a presentation on the future of Bitcoin scalability
at the recent Blockchain Agenda Conference in San Diego, where he outlined some of the key benefits of Segregated Witness (
SegWit).

at the same time, subversive control.
As of October 2017, two new forks are planned to occur on the
Segwit chain: SegwitGold is scheduled to split on or around October 25th, and the

SegWit and instead supports removing the Bitcoin blockchain's artificial block size limit (temporarily set
at 1 MB) to fuel increased scalability.
At this point, a cartel with over 51 % of the network hashing power switches back to the original bitcoin protocol, changing all outstanding
SegWit payments as well as the last block payments to AnyoneCanSpend addresses that can be instantly redistributed to themselves.
And other projects that need, or
at the least, work better with
SegWit capability are well underway, too.
To begin, Sztorc's new roadmap continues to include Segregated Witness (
SegWit), the code optimization
at the center of bitcoin's scaling debate, but also outlines a timeline for the Lightning Network, transaction compression and Schnorr signatures.
In addition, lightning can't be implemented
at scale until
SegWit is more widely extended - so, while some believe that there is enough
SegWit support to run the network on mainnet now, others predict that a usable lightning network could be

SegWit is a short - term supposed solution that will not create the velocity of use needed to drive up the market price of bitcoin to its highest potential, while
SegWit2x will only modestly increase the block size to 2 MB.
SegWit's goal is to boost the blockchain's transaction capacity by sending transactions off - chain and onto second layers like the Lightning Network, which is all about creating a global credit network that will tie up funds for
at least half year, and really, how many people have six months available to place into a bank?

With momentum firmly behind them
at this stage, and after a few more months of testing the Core, developers announced that version 0.13.0 of the Bitcoin Core software would include
SegWit code, albeit in a pre-activation state that could be triggered with a subsequent update.
