signalling support for
SegWit.
Bitmain in particular has explicitly stated their refusal to implement
SegWit if it's not combined with a hard fork increase of the block size limit, and its pools — which include the BTC.com mining pool — have enough
signaling power to block
SegWit's activation.
UASF supporters often argue that mining pools were incentivized to
signal for
SegWit because they wanted to avoid the activation of BIP 148 for more political reasons.
If things had gone differently, users, mining pools, and companies running the BIP 148 nodes would have started rejecting blocks that did not
signal support for
SegWit yesterday.
Using an activation method called «VersionBits» (BIP9), designed to minimize network disruption, 95 percent of miners (by hash power) had to
signal support for
SegWit to activate on the Bitcoin network.
SegWit code will be included in the upcoming 0.13 release of Bitcoin Core; however, the code that allows miners to
signal their support for the protocol change (and activate it once 95 percent of miners are on board) will be included in a later release likely Bitcoin Core 0.13.1.
Before its introduction, for example,
SegWit had stalled for months due to its reliance on the idea miners would
signal support to activate the change.
Bitcoin Core 0.13.1 was released last week, which means miner
signaling on the proposed Segregated Witness (
SegWit) soft fork will start soon.

When Bitcoin crashed to around $ 1800 over fears of a «split» caused by UASF, the miners started to
signal for BIP91 (

SegWit activation since miners that aren't
signaling will effectively have their blocks constantly orphaned, leading to a significant loss in their mining revenue.
On the other hand, other mining pools have shown eagerness to make the upgrade, with Slush
signaling support for the change early (despite the alleged dangers of doing so) and BTCC indicating that its mining pool is «ready» for
SegWit.
After this successful BIP91 lock in, miners
signaling for BIP91 and running the BTC1 software developed by Jeff Garzik will start to reject all of the blocks which are not
signaling for
SegWit, which is very similar to the UASF (BIP148) concept.
Segregated Witness (
SegWit), the Bitcoin protocol upgrade proposed by the Bitcoin Core development team, was originally designed to activate via the Bitcoin Improvement Protocol 9 (BIP 9) standard, a hash - power
signalling mechanism.
Issued on Thursday and dedicated solely to code called Segregated Witness (
SegWit), version 0.13.1 allows miners to
signal support for the scaling solution after 15th November.

Their
SegWit code, defined by BIP141, activates if 95 percent of hash power within a single difficulty period of about two weeks
signals readiness before November 15th.
A big increase of Litecoin mining is being planned by a group of developers who call themselves
SegWit or Segregated Witness
Signaling.
But if you are a miner, you may want to help activate
SegWit by
signaling readiness for BIP91.
In other words, if BIP91 did not lock in in time, there must now have been a two - week difficulty period in which 95 percent of hash power
signals support for
SegWit.
So, if the majority of the Bitcoin economy enforces BIP 148, miners will have to
signal support for
SegWit in order not to have their blocks rejected.

signaling blocks - only, which is compatible with both BIP91 and BIP148, which means that all Bitcoin nodes are united on one chain.
If, at that point, a majority of miners (by hash power) does not
signal support for
SegWit through BIP148, Bitcoin's blockchain and currency could split in two: a coin - split.
These users and miners will only accept Bitcoin blocks that

F2Pool, the biggest Litecoin pool with 45.6 % of the network's hash rate, announced it will
signal their support for
SegWit in the coming weeks.

signalled the BU solution and 266 for
SegWit.
